Default Stereo Wiring Problem

Hi all, i am new to the forums. Am a born CRX lover, on my second of the last generation. I just got a stock 1989 HF this week and went to replace the factory deck. i bought an alpine deck, and installed it myself. When i wired the deck in, using the wire color codes from alpine and the ones found on this forum, the deck wouldn't light up. i have encountered this before and after a while, got it to work, but only when i wired both the 12V battery lead and the 12V ignition (Yellow and red, respectively) to the 12V ignition wire (yellow with red stripe). this must obviously be because the 12V battery wire (white with blue stripes) is dead. this sucks because now my cd player works well, but i have to reset it everytime i turn the car off, which is a pain. my question is, what would cause this wire to be dead? if it is a bad wire, how can i wire around it or get the needed power from an alternative source?

any help would be appreciated.
