99-00 SI question
so i was looking at this SI at a dealer, and i guess it has a jdm b16a motor in it. The a2 is out of it for some reason and it looks like a first gen b16.
the the speedo doesnt work and the the check engine light is on.
i talked the guy and he said it had to do somthing with the wireing..... and vtec didnt even engage. i check all the wiring for vtec and it was all there and complete.
but he did say it was because they had to stretch the crank angle sensor, and said that was the problem for the check eng light and the speedo not working.
does this sound right??
i need help before i drop some money down hahaha

stay away.
at least thats what i would do. i dont trust cars when they have swapped motors and check engine lights. and since its a jdm motor (jdm motors do not have b16a2 its just a b16a) and possibly a first gen (which you said) if there is a smog inspection in your state you'll be asking for trouble.

yea thats what im worried about. but i have smog hook ups so im not really worried about that, i just need to know the cause of the check engine light and speedo.
the guy also said that the car is kinda running in a "safe mode" type deal and thats why vtec wont engage.

they have paper work for the motor and it has roughly around 34k.

I could have sworn it was illegal for a dealership to sell a vehicle with the CEL on.

well they just have to sell it to someone that doesnt leave in the county where you have to smog, but i know people that will help me out there.
i dont know, im kinda having second thoughts on it now, its a really clean car and all but im not sure

$8000 before TTL is a waste. You can buy a bone stock EM1 in immaculate condition for that kind of money. Let some other idiot deal with that car's problems.

There's a reason for that. "Buy here pay here" will cost you much more in the long run because of higher interest rates, and is usually used to sucker you into buying a car that you really cannot afford (and if that car happens to be a POS, you're in for a world of trouble). Stick with banks and credit unions for auto loans, but make sure to shop around.
Take it from me, someone who has learned all of these things the hard way - a '99-00 Si isn't really worth the hassle or the insurance premiums. It's a heavy economy car with **** suspension geometry and a lackluster engine. If you're looking for performance, you can find better cars for less money. I had one for 3 years and was glad to be rid of both the car and the loan.

I completely disagree.

Is this a honda dealership?!?! If so you better have them fix those problems before they even think about selling it. Otherwise your asking for trouble and probably alot of troubleshooting and even the posibility of having to reswap the engine. Fact is that car was traded most likely for a reason and sounds like if you buy it like it is its going to be asking for more to repair it than you paid for to buy it.
its not at the honda dealer. but they took it there to see what the problem was and honda wont touch the motor cause its not the same motor.
if its a first gen b16, it doesnt have a crank angle sensor on the stock block, neither does obd1 motors. Only obd2 motors had the crank angle sensor. unless they changed the oil pump to obd2, then it would have one. But i dont see why they would have to extend the wires for that if they did. Also, vtec doesnt kick in because the speedo doesnt work, check the VSS it should be code 17 for the check engine light.

if you cant get a greedy dealership to touch your car and take your money, that car is beyond f***ed.

OP, please do not be stupid.
You can get a great condition GSR for that price.
I bought my EM1 in that condition for 6.5K and it was an OKAY deal. Now that I thought about it I wouldn't have picked it up.
http://WWW.AUTOTRADER.COM look around before you jump into a pile of ****.

good info, exactly what i was going to say... theres all ur probs right there. I swapped in a obd1 and converted to obd2 w/ p2t ecu, i pass insp no probs at all.. VTEC will work with a working vss or it could be the connection on it, mine went bad. And replace the oil pump and you'll be good.
But tell them u kno how to fix it, u want that $ taken off the price

Indeed.
And not only is the Integra a better car overall performance-wise, it is also more practical because it can be found in both liftback and sedan forms.
