79mm d16?
Is anyone else here running a 79mm bore d-series? My JG sleeved 79mm d16a6 cracked the aluminum around the iron sleeve (which was thin as all hell--ever since I got the block I thought it was to thin) I have had so many problems with this block from day one. It cracked right between 1 and 2--and the HG couldn't hold. I took the head off and since the crack was barely visible and wasn't in the actual iron I got another HG and put it on. the compression test checked out ok with the new HG but when running the #1 cylinder was leaking pressure. Tore it back down and am pulling the motor right now. This was a 13:1 NA application. Even if I got the most bulletproof sleeves (which these were not) I don't think I would ever do 79mm again--its just way too thin between the cylinders--reguardless of how thick the sleeves are around the water jacket. I literally got less than 100 miles out of this POS. I wanted to go 79 because it came out to 1763cc--but its just not worth it. I am transferring everything out of that motor except for pistons (obviously) bearings, HG -into a fresh d16a6 block bored to 75.5mm. I just want to know who else has a 79mm d16? How long did it last you? Who sleeved the block? Would you ever do it again? I will have pictures up later tonite or tomorrow.
I know of one other guy on here who has a 79mm d16z6 JG motor--he is actually selling it. there is a dyno run on JGs site of it--made 228 hp at the crank. Pretty nice build--I just don't trust 79mm d16s.
Yup fully built JG 79mm. I ran it a few times in my hatch, i had a ignition problem was falling on its face on to end. Still ended up running 8.2 in the 1/8th @83/84mph then on top it ran 14.0 at 92mph. In Steele,AL Nopi Comp 4 race. After i got home found the problem but never got back on the track thanks to Hurricane Katrina. No probelms out of it very strong motor.
