Default ITR in Bay Area easily broken into!

This morning as I was getting ready to hop into into my ITR, I noticed my alarm remote wasn't responding. I took a little closer look and noticed my hood was popped open slightly. Turns out my ITR was broken into. It was a very clean break-in - they reached under the driver side fender and pulled the trunk lid cable, then unplugged my battery. My alarm didn't have a backup battery ! However, I did have the Autolock and that might be why I still have my car. They took my deck and some miscellaneous junk. Just a warning to you folks here in the bay area.

Anyone have any recommendations for "key" hood locks? I hear of some cheap locks rusting.

Only way is to use locking hood pins. A hood release cable with a lock will not keep them from getting under the hood, cause they can always access the release cable from either the fender (unless you move it) or the front bumper cap.

You could mount the battery in the trunk. By the time they figure it out your alarm will hopefully have gone off.

No. They`d bust the hood w/ ease.

exact same way they broke into my car awhile back and stole my stereo. However they reached through the front mouth of the car to pull the hood cable probally because I had 17" rims on at the time which made it impossible to reach into the fender.
They too only took the stereo and misc stuff like my shift ****, owners manuel, cd's, etc... And didn't take the car or touched the engine. Maybe because I have a crazy alarm system that probally helped, but still...

Oh yeah to add to the thefts, two of my friends both had their R's broken into and stolen in the past month. One was completely stolen but recovered with a messed up engine, etc... and the other had the interior stolen.

I hate that! Why take the shift **** and owners manual?! That's adding insult to injury. We need someone like the guy on swordfish to deal with car theives. They stole my garage door opener from my GSR (which opened my MOTHER's house, not my apt).

I'd also like to know which hood lock work.

where in Oakland did it happen?
Too many thefts going on in the bay area this past month.
Check some local body shops if you want to hunt down your parts. One body shop in Industrial Blvd (Hayward) was busted for buying stolen parts.

you guys should really replace the door besel (sp?) from an old integra RS. You know our car has that metal latch to automatically lock/unlock the car from inside. the one from RS doesn't have that, so it would be a bit of an effort to break into the car.

yeah I know! My wheel lock was even in the car and they didn't take it!!!!!
They took the type R map light I had, my owners manuel case, my razo fu@ked up shift ****, my camera, my cd's, my stereo, and some other random stuff. However they didn't take any parts off the car. I'm thrilled that they didn't hurt the car, however I wish I had my owners manuel! Thats just a low blow!!!!!
Oh yeah they also popped my gas tank lid, thinking it was the truck latch!!! hahaha

One of my first mods was to put a switch under my hood so the alarm goes off if it is opened!... Didn't you have one of those?

Can you elaborate on this? I am very interested. Is this another alarm unit dedicated just for the hood?

Yes I am also quite curious as to what this alarm switch under the hood deal is.

pinswitch.....when the hood is raised the spring pops back up and the alarm goes off. THis can be wired into your alarm for a cost of nearly 50-75 bucks.

word of warning for those looking at pinswitches, not only are they sorta useless unless you relocate or have a backup battery but if you have a cf hood the pin can press the uberlite hood far enough up to trigger your alarm, lotsa fun in an apartment garage, lil tape fixed that prob though -rob

I have a set on my hood. I believe the hood locks are from Mr.Gasket. Bought them like a year ago, havn't had a problem with rust. The hood locks are flush mounted, chrome slightly plated. Don't have a pic, but I'm sure there some info on the net.

Autolock is $60, but the older model can be had for $40. I'm guessing the lock thingy in the pic above is at least double the cost of the new Autolock.
