Default 85 Carburated CRX

So I am looking into getting a CRX as a DD as well as make another CRX for a project car. I love CRX's but money is tight so its hard to get one around here.

I recently stumbled across this one a few weeks agao and watch it drop in price since it hasn't sold. I finnaly called the owner and asked them the main questions. The body needs paint(understandable) he said that he has full interior and its in good shape. Clutch dosn't slip and tranny is still good. The only thing is, its the original engine.

How good is the carburated engine in a CRX with 144k miles? When I go to look at it, what do I look for? How can I tell if this is the DX or the HF version(it has no sunroof so that takes out SI)? I would plan on driving it around for a coupple of months and then try to swap in a D16 for DD use. How hard would the swap be concidering that this is carburated.

Any help would be appreciated.

If you can get the VIN, you may want to run a carfax report on it just to see it's (possibly grisly) history.

As far as the engine goes... Since you plan on swapping it out very soon anyways, if the car is driveable for a couple months I say go for it and buy the car. You might be able to talk the guy down even more. You can go there and act interested in the car, but then tell him you can only have $600 (or whatever) because you have to pay for books this semester or some crap.

Well, I plan on talking him down to 500$ anyways. I can probally get the VIN if anyone wouldnt mind doing a carfax for me.

My problem right now is that I lost my job due to me warping the heads on my Saab(damn saab!) So I dont know how soon I can do a sawp. How reliable is the engine?

On a scale of 1-10 how hard would the D16 sawp be on a 1st gen?

Thanks.

Hate to bump a post, but I just needed some input. They lowered the price on the car to 600$ and need to sell it bad. So I might be able to steal it for 400$

Maybe you could trade him the Saab? lol The same thing happened to my friend with his Saab, weird.

There are forums dedicated to the 1st gen CRX, let me see if I can find one for you.

I didnt even think of the 1st gen Fourm idea.

But yea, it was a good car untill the heads warped. The radiator had a huge hole in it and I took that lightly untill the car finally started to over heat. So I guess it was kind of my fault.

Might be worth it for you to convert to OBD-I while you are at it...
