h22 in eg iab wierd hook up

h22 in eg iab wierd hook up
i put the yellow black wire to ground , and the other wire to a17 and nothing happens.
so the i put the yellow black wire directly to the positive terminal on the battery and it work perfect.
is that the way its suppose to be. i dont want to blow my ecu!
also will this drain my battery?
