Default psycho wheel hop

95 Honda Civic: I had a B18C put in with complete front end etc. ... also had a heavy duty racing clutch put in.

The problem is when I jump on it banging gears, there is some severe wheel hop or shaking sensation in first, second and third gears. A friend says he thinks the flywheel wasn't resurfaced and that is the problem. Or could it be motor mounts?

The racing shop here in Thailand who did the motor/tranny install just says it's the racing clutch and that is how it is (lazy asses), i don't agree.

opinions appreciated.

it seems to be wheel hop, it is very harsh and feels like the engine is going to jump out of the car.

but normal acceleration with gear shifts are rather smooth.........

just concerned as the two motor mounts in the front look tight, however there are mounts inside on both sides, but only one side has extra rubber bushings. I am wondering they obsorb what i'm describing, and if i'm missing something.

will take some pics of the mounts today.

True, BUT if this is in fact abnormal, then it's a problem that has to be addressed. I say ride in somebody elses car with a similar setup (approx hp) and compare your car to theirs first.

Free bump for a fellow Thai What u are reffering to is tranny chatter. The clutch u have is so aggressive that if u dont keep the revs high enough it will grab prematurely. U either have to get used to reving it to what the clutch demands or get a new clutch. I had one like a stage 4 clutch on a next to stock motor, it chattered all the time till i adapted to it. The clutch disc only lasted like a year and a half as well. A street setup clutch would probably be best for u. Right now I'm running a stage 1 exedy with ITR flywheel. Feels pretty close to stock except the pressure plate is a bit heavier. No chatter though

Upgrade the motor mounts and check for worn suspension components.

Stiffening up the above will make a big improvement.

Oh yea, make sure you're using decent tires.

thanks for the advice all, rukawa1one maybe you are right - boon racing put in the race clutch and it really grabs. however, driving around bangkok traffic and keeping the revs up gets to the left leg after awhile.

your clutch specs sound reasonable and will get that next time around (1 year or so)

Oh hell ya, thats got to be the worst! I've driven on the streets there b4 and it sucks ***** especially in sukumvit

I just sent my friend there an OEM type R lip for his 98 integra front end. Maybe u have seen him around, he drives a yellow integra with US 98 front end.

I guess you've learned the valuable lesson of not putting too much clutch in a street car, huh?

yeh luckily i only have to deal with bkk traffic for one day a week, the 1 hour trip there and back is sweet -- there is no speed limit in thailand.

i have been replacing stock bushings with polyurathane, will get to the motor mounts next -- for piece of mind

tires are goodyear z-rated
