i've a itr tranny on my turbocharged B16, and i looking for a good oil.
what do you think about MOTUL 300 75W90 100% ester syntetic?
or is better MOTUL 90PA LSD fluid SAE90?

The 300 75W90 should be enough since the OEM LSD is not a clutch pack type unit.

Otherwise - most here will recommend the Honda fluid or the GM (as in General motors) syncromesh or the Pennzoil syncromesh.

 

do you need any additional additives with the Honda MTF because of the LSD?

OEM LSD requires no additives, preservatives or msg.....

 

i have the honda mtf

havent really ripped the car to test it but it "feels" different than 10w40 that was in the tranny before...

 

If you can get it in france i recommend Valvoline GL5 gearbox oil.

 

how about the "new and improved" acura mtf?

what part of the world do you live?

So Hondas get shafted since they don't get the "A" designation after the P/N? Honda dealerships will only continue using the old stuff?

Because I really can't see them charging more for the Acura fluid just because it is Acura stuff....

 

In my other car, I've tried Honda MTF, Redline MTL, and 10W30 motor oil. I didn't notice any difference among them. Now I just stick with the Honda stuff.

 

here is the "new and improved" honda mtf. so if you like the old stuff you better stock up. look same white cap as the acura precision crafted mtf.

 

I just ordered some MTF I better double check and see if im getting the new stuff

 

They new stuff is noticably better than the old.

 

Amsoil syncromesh here. I noticed a big difference. Although I dont have an R.

 

just got my tranny oil from acura, it has a black cap not the white.

part# 08798-9016A same thing?

is this the "hybrid" fluid? the guy asked me if i wanted regular or hybrid but i chose the regular.

 

You can also try Lubro Moly 75w-90 gear oil...

 

Pennsoil 10w30 motor oil here It's cheap and it works fine.

Otherwise Honda MTL.

 

you guys using 75-90 or similar viscosities need to seriously drain that **** out. it's waay too thick, you'll mess up your synchro's. honda used to fill their trannies with 10w30 conventional (never use synthetics, they are too slick), then they refined the oil to what they called Honda MTF. basically 10w30 with honda's additive package.

GM synchromesh is also thin like 10w30. it's a good fluid to go with too. the thick **** is gonna cause problems, watch out for it

HOnda MTF, thats what it was designed to use.

 

I've been using valvoline GL5 75-90 for almost 3 years now (approx 35k miles) and my gear changes are still silky smooth right up to the 9100rpm rev limit....in all gears. I change it every year (approx 10k intervals) and will continue to use it for as long as i have the car. It has never caused me any problems.

I can't use oem honda mtf because I have a clutch pack lsd (ATS).

GM Syncromesh is known o destroy OUR trannies cause it makes MORE Friction... there are several threads around the Internet concerning that...

I don't believe you know what 75w-90 Gear Oil is.... This is no thicker than the MTF or 10w-30... GEAR OIL has a DIFFERENT Viscosity Rating than Standard Engine Oil.... Further more I have Used HONDA MTF and TWO Bottles of LUCAS for years and there is not much else out there that is THICKER than LUCAS

But the 75w-90 GEAR OIL is not thick like you are probably thinking.

 

I have used several types...including Kaaz which was way too thick, and needed changing every 5k-8k miles. If it did not get changed in time you could feel it! When I went back to Honda MTF all my little gremlins went away! Kaaz is great oil for their diffs, but Honda uses their own MTF so what would be better for their trannies?!

Long story short...trust a tech...use Honda MTF!!! Oh btw The new MTF is at Honda dealers now too! /\
