Default Noob Question: Firing sequence

I think i might have placed my wires wrong on the lude cause it's running like total a$$. how does the sequence go?? Looking at the engine is it 4-3-2-1 going from right to left? how are they placed on the distributor cap?

i know this is a stupid question, just bare with me. I'm a tad bit lost.

Firing order of 1-3-4-2. Drivers side is Cyl #1, and goes right to left.

On the distributor, starting from the coil wire, go 1-3-4-2, clockwise

in most cases the cyl. numbers start 1 at the water pump end.
as that being the front of the engine

not all people have internal coil....there is a dot on the distributor cap at the cylinder #1 spot, just a 1/4" dot....that goes for any cap...

could i have maybe done something wrong? i hooked it up wrong once or twice and it idled REALLY bad, so i shut off the engine. Everything is hooked up right, and now i hear this popping sound coming from the exhaust! im able to drive and stuff, but it's not totally smooth... could i have screwed up the plugs or something? it's a little hesitant at lower RPM's... i changed the plugs 2 months ago (ngk iridiums)

thanks

It would help if you told us what you had done before you started observing these problems. Just a plug change? t-belt?, ??
