Default M2J5 or M2S4 - which is recomended performance wise

I believe the M2J5 is the 5th gen JDM tranny and the M2S4 is the 4th gen SI tranny. I want the higher performance based tranny.

I was going through the gearing of each in the FAQ at this link https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=549372 and it appears that the gearing and final drive of the M2S4 is better than that of the M2J5.

Is that right? I am buying a tranny and have found them both that I can get ahold of for reasonable cost.

I just want to be sure I am reading the gearing correctly before I buy either.

Thanks

longer gears are better for a turbo, allows more boost to collect. and shorter gears are better for N/A, allows you to get all that power quicker. im pretty sure that is correct. correct me if i am wrong

This pic says they're both 4th Gen Si trannies. Looks like the USDM tranny is a good bit shorter...

So for an NA build I would be best off getting the USDM SI M2S4 and not the JDM M2J5.

Cause the gears are shorter and the final drive is better.

Is that correct?

Honestly the SI tranny appears to be damn near as well geared as the M2a4-M2b4 doesn't it?

I mean IMO it is in alot of ways even geared better than the 4th USDM Vtec tranny due to the 5th gear.

And the m2j5 is almost equivelant to the USDM Lude S tranny
I just want reasurance that I am reading this correct.

Thanks

if your running with an h22a your going to fall out of vtec with a si tranny unless you over rev a tad.

usually longer gears means MORE rpm drop between gears....this tran is the longest gears i have out of the 4 i ahve (m2a4, m2s4 and m2y4 in addition).

So with the longer than H22 Si tranny you'll fall out of VTEC between shifts (or something), but with F-series tranny, longer than even the Si's, you won't?

Hmmm.

i hear people talking they fall out of vtec on shifts, but to me that just means they are not shifting right before rev limit. I initially had the m2a4 in my accord with an h22, then later got a civic and put an h22 with an m2s4 in it, then later pulled the m2a4 out of the accord and put the p2a4 in it.

None of them have dropped out of vtec if i shifted at 8000 indicated (which when using datalogging shows as around 7500 for my car). It comes close, like if a flub the shift it drops out of vtec, but even with accord gear spacing/prelude S gear spacing I can keep it in vtec. maybe i am just special or soemthing....

People probably just shift at the redline on the tach.

(I guess?)

yeah well the h22 redline at 7400 according to the tach so since your reving to 8k your fine thats what was stated on the thread was to rev to 8 and you wouldnt fall out. but if your only going to redline on the tach they were falling out of vtec.

tachs read high, though. 7400 on the tach is only going to be like 7000ish.
