D16Y8 help needed here... bad motor, wants to be good again!!
OK, here's the story. My friend has a 00 EX, which he had a cold air intake on. One day it rained, he found a puddle (CAI was still connected as one piece). Ran through puddle without thinking, sucked up lots o' water, and BAM! his motor locked up. It's been sitting in his garage for 6 months or so now(valve cover off), and last night i saw it, asked him what he was gonna do with it, he said nothing... He gave it to me. So now i have this blown 1.6 in my possession, and i want to rebuild it. Not only for the purpose of putting it in a car later on, but to possible hold NOS and/or Boost. Since the motor is completely dead, what do i need to rebuild it? im gonna be working on this project check by check, so what parts do i need first, and what parts should i be less concerned with??
Also, any websites that are completely D-series related? any with D16 projects? build-ups? Looking for any and all info i can come up with. Thanks alot guys
Post comments, suggestions, ideas, etc. here or email me: Jpotta3@aol.com
Again, thanks in advance...

first check the rods and see how badly they bent.
Did it trash the cylinder walls?
Warp/twist the crank?
Figure adding new rods (Eagle) and pistons (SRP?) + machine work. This will be about $1000 just to get started.

I'm building a D16Y8 myself, and honestly, most of the Honda engines are pretty much same in theory. Only thing is, you're dealing w/ only bumpstick, but that's about it. Take the head off of the block, take the oil pan off. You'll need to fully disassemble everything, and then check the specs for each of the parts. It'll take a lot of time (and some money too), but it pays to do it right the first time. You'll need to get a spring compressor to remove the valve springs, cuz you'll want to check the condition of the valves. Check the camshaft and make sure the hydrolocking process didn't damage the camshaft either. Check everything, then check 'em again!
it really depends on how bad the dammage is. same thing happend to my friends integra @ 1500rpm. the dealer that looked at his motor threw it away and just put in a whole new short block from a salvaged car. I don't know how bad that motor really was....but the block was most likely fine. everything else? dunno.....if you need all new parts from the crank up you gotta be down to spend alot of money for those parts.
Just curious, how deep was this "puddle" your friend ran through?
Info on turbocharging d16's, you can probably get some build up info there too. http://pub19.ezboard.com/fturbod16forumturbod16
This board is a little slow, but it is dedicated solely to the d16. http://pub34.ezboard.com/bhondadseries
