D16y8 - Replacing Motor with an Automatic *need help*
Hey guys, so as the title states but doesnt specify, I had bought a car off of kijiji from a guy in Toronto, about 2 hours away from where I live. The car itself came in pretty good shape, and for it being my first Civic, I knew I'd be impressed and was pumped to hear some vtec for a change . One of the perks of his car was that it had a "newer" motor on it, estimating 90'000km on it. I thought that was slicker then dog sh*t. Its now roughly 5-6 months later, and due to a slow, untraceable oil leak Im guessing, it started wearing down my rods and i eventually started getting a knock. Knew it wasnt worth it to keep straining the motor, I used my library of resources and found myself a LEGIT newer D16y8 motor from within family (we own a lot of shops and yards so its perfect) with 83'000km on it. Got a smoking deal at 250$.
The process is done, and it made it a little difficult without the right tools to take the axles out of the transmission take it out all as one, I had to seperate the motor from the tranny and pull it out that way. Not the funnest thing ive ever done.
Okay now onto the problems, I felt you guys should have a little background. The new motor I got my hands on was from a '99 or '00 civic si/ex, but was once equipped in a car with an Automatic transmission. I noticed that the throttle bodies/intake manifolds werent completely identical between the Manual old motor and Automatic new motor, so I took the liberty in moving my Manual one over onto the new motor.
About a week into the new motor now, seems to be working good, but I have a lumpy idle. It originally wandered from 1000-2000 for even amounts of times, roughly 2-3 seconds at each end of the range. Sometimes If i give it a very little bit of gas, itll almost stop this spasm its having. Now it doesnt do the wandering like that, but its like the whole car is PULSATING within 2-300 RPM, like enough to shake the car. when you go to acccelerate, it makes it worse until you push the pedal down enough to almost launch yourself lol, making driving a little dangerous behind someone. I find the odd time I drive for not too long, it wen't even do it. by reading thousands and thousands of threads on here, and asking everybody I can think of ive pretty much narrowed it down to my IACV. My concern is that the Automatic motor doesnt even have an IACV part on the back? I'm just curious if me swapping my Manual throttle body over to an Automatic motor, (being newer) is throwing something out of wack. I was told the lumpiness on idle/take off was from the little pin/rod in your IACV not being able to come back all the way, to let maximum air in at idle. The spring inside is countering the motion to the point where its almost choking on air/fuel and keeping the pin closed.
to Summarize: does taking an automatic motor (only motor) and putting it into a completely manual car, INCLUDING a Manual throttle body, throw anything like this out of wack? what is my best bet in solving this pain in the a**?
In addition to this, I have a new CEL/MIL code which I thought was interesting. Since the swap, I have developed a P0108 Generic - Manifold Absolute Pressure/BARO Sensor High Input. what does this mean and/or does this effect/cause my problem? I know you boys will have my problem settled in no time, but I'm done wasting time trying to find it myself ._.
thanks fellas
