In the way of electrical aftermarket parts, i have a 1600W RMS MA audio amp powering a 12" alpine type X, one 2fared cap and i also have a pioneer AVIC-D1 navi system..thats it...My question is, is there a need to upgrade my alternator? I believe the stock one on my car (2000 accord coupe v6) is 130 amps...My headlights no longer dim while driving due to the cap.

 

It is not necessary but its not a bad idea if you have the money to do it.

 

Ive had larger sub setups in my car with no problems...but am i going to harm my charging system with this setup and stock alternator?

 

Before you do anything go have your 12 volt system checked to make sure you don't all ready have any problems and everything is up to par. Next get yourself a battery with more cca. If its a old factory battery or some beat up one if not going to help. Next do the big three. This will help out alot. What model ma audio are you using. I work with them. If its the entry level your not going to be no were near the 1600 rms. Plus your amp is not going to be putting out 1600 rms at all times. Peep my sig. My sister accord is running 1500 rms and all is fine. Bigger battery, big three and a 5 farad cap. Only one is show there. And it holds 13.10 volts when playing.

 

Hey wrx killer, i like the polk dx's (in your trunk right?) i got two of them, pretty good subs, but yea run checks with your alt on load itll tell you if it is sufficient. Also test the volts at the amp. Big three and bigger battery helped out my car

Its not a stock battery, its the biggest you can fit in the stock bat position. and my boob question is; what is the big three? also when hook up my pioneer avic-d1 navi system, it has a volt meter built in. Will this be a suffcient test?

If you want to make it real easy install the Google tool bar and click to make "Popupe okay", [do this when on H/T] it only allows popups on H/T and the "IMs" will pop up an soon as you log in, or when you go back to the main page, and new "IMs" will pop up as long as you are not posting something.
I find it a lot faster and more convenient then "E Mail" when communicating privately with H/T members.
I had to ask what the star on my "pointer" was, every time I came to H/T. 94

 

I installed my D1, and the voltage meter in it says im running 12.5V when the car is off, and 14.5 when the car is on and idling. Sounds right?
