Default exhaust makes a popping noise

i have a greddy evo2 exhaust system and ive had it for about 2 month. It just started recently making a popping sound at the start of a new gear when i accelerate. I don't know what it could be, i was thinkin maybe i need a new catalytic converter. any help would be appreciated.

It is just a slight backfire in the piping. Mine (d17a2 motor) does it as well. Nothing to worry about if it is not too loud.

K20A3 should not do that on acceleration with a cat back. Happens sometimes on deceleration.

when we hear "popping" or "backfire" coming from the exhaust 9 out of 10, it has nothing to do with the aftermarket exhaust or aftermarket header installed. The cause is fuel not properly being burned and the fuel is making its way past the combustion chamber where it explodes in the header and/or exhaust. In some cases just like exhaust reversion, the explosion can move backward in the system while the intake valve is open, and the actual "backfire" or "popping" is not happening in the exhaust yet in the intake system.

This suggests there is a problem in one of or more areas : spark plug, fuel injector, ignition, timing, and the engine needs a tune. From my understanding our stock ecu's can make a plus or minus 10% adjustment in fuel addition in normal operating conditions.
