I recently bought a b17 complete block for 100$ and GSR front arms/brakes. Now the main reason for this is that i want to surprise my friend before he gets back to california from iraq. This will be a great gift as he is a total automotive head. lol. I'm still extremely new at this, I only drive and just recently got into engine wise so yeah im newb.

so with this complete block i have, what should i do? i've gotten responses from a few local people about port and polish/resleve/boring but i also heard its pretty expensive.

are b series engine parts swapable between each others? from like b16 b17 b18 b20?

what else would i need to buy? i mean i have basic help from the locals here and my mechanic but i would like to know what i'm looking for and what to look for so i know not to get jipped. if all else fails i might just give the block up to a friend to do all the work and the finances will come from me.

this is a mear learning experience for myself as well. so any help and information is appreciated.

What car does he drive now, and what's currently in it?

 

he's driving a 1995 hatch dx right now and my cap is probably 2k. on engine.

the hatch right now has a d15b7 motor in it. stock.
