Toda cam gear wear - is there a warranty for this?
I was getting my timing belt changed out when my friend noticed that the gam gear's teeth were worn down!
Check the pics:
The pictures may not capture the concave shape of the teeth, but you should get the idea.
The cam gears have only been "stock replacements" for the past 60k miles, they haven't even been used to tune yet. Is this normal? The friend helping me with my timing belt install said that this wasn't the best thing to be driving around with in the long run.
Will Toda warranty this?

I will be highly skeptical. I dont know that their cam gears come with a warranty program, nor do they recommend the cam gears for street use. A race car doesnt see 60k of wear and tear.
Call them and see what they have to say.

there is a problem there for sure, I have toda's as well and they tend to get pitted when I had them exposed (by salt in the winter), since then I have covered them up again, but they do not look anything like yours.
In your case though, it is major. What kind of t belt did you use, what cams, valve springs?
I have over 100K Kms on mine and other then salt damage they are fine...

Stock everything, stock belt, cams, valve springs, etc.
I just called the rep and he says this is what's typical of aluminum cam gears. He also said that they don't provide any type of warranty on these products.
Hrmm, not the greatest bit of news, huh?
Well, at least I can get a discount from a local distributor on AEM/skunk2/HKS cam gears. Time for some research.

I bought the car with these already installed. Why were they installed-- I don't know!
When first looking under the hood, I thought i'd find some Toda cams as well, but little did I know that the only thing I'd find were worn down cam gears

My camera phone is good, but not that good
It wasn't able to capture the depth of the pits. You could definitely feel them, though.

lol personally i don't really like Toda products... Most of if not all of these aftermarket items are race use items as they say. Todas gears are made out of soft material and are not hardened, that's why it wore out like that. I also think they are made from a casting which would make them weak. They say race use only so they can say " Sorry we can't warranty this item because its RACE USE ONLY" I think Toda should warranty this guys gears but that's just me...
Call them back and bitch till you get a new set
prolly wont work but worth a try.

Yeah, I think a lot of you guys are missing the point. **** wears out in 60,000 miles, especially race-related **** that's not meant for high mileage stuff. If you could put 60,000 street miles on some race shocks, would you expect them to last? Of course not.

They would if you had 100,000 mile warranty added
