My tranny is gone in my 96 gsr.please help!!!!
The tranny is gone in my 96 gsr and I need help replacing it. Ideas would be great. I have heard of like putting a type r 3rd gear and stuff like that. Or should I just buy a new one. Also this car will be boosted when done with and I dont want to do the tranny rebuild again. Also I did a search on "gsr tranny" and came up with nothing. Thanks again guys.
If it's "gone", just buy a new one, gsr, or b16.
Gsr if you want a slightly better highway cruising speed/rpm though.
b16 will definitely be quicker, and no, don't worry about turbo, and shorter gears,
which ever fits your needs better, then get That trans.
:edit: Or buy a type-r if you have the money, LSD is nice.

If you ar eplanning on going turbo you would be better off getting an LS tranny. The longer gears would allow the turbo to spool. Gsr and B16 trannies are better for all motor applications.

No. Why does this always come up? If you want to spool longer, pull out in 5th gear. Yeah, that doesn't make sense either.
To the OP, if you want to give your GSR a performance boost, get an ITR or B16 transmission. The SHORTER gear ratios will allow you to accelerate better.
What happened to the original transmission in your car? Bad synchros?
This is a very good thread for a custom transmission.

If you think about it why the **** would longer gears be better for turbo... If your trans is making your motor rev up faster so is your turbo douche bag.
p.s. if your going to break open the tranny you might as well do some maintenence down there..

The only thing good about the LS trans is well .. higher top speeds.
And srsly, with a gsr trans, at the stock redline of even an LS engine,
You'd still be able to go atleast 130-135 on it.
But top speed isn't the best thing, it's how fast you can get up to w/e speed,
So pretty much, if you want something quick, just get a gsr/b16/type-r,
also b16=type-r minus the LSD, so pretty much any of those are a good choice.
