Is getting a lightened flywheel (for example 8.8lbs) a bad idea with a turbo integra gsr? or is 8.8lb over kill? I am going to replace the clutch and i wanna know if getting a lighter flywheel is worth it.
I'm running a 12lbs flywheel with no problems, but I do believe 8.8lbs is too light. But for force induction I would choose a middle weight flywheel, but i've seen 7 lbs flywheels work for a while with low horsepower(under 300hp).........

Your not really going to notice anythign in shifting, but you will notice a much faster responding engine. unless your building a full road race style car not for the street, there's no reason not to use a aftermarket lightened flywheel. they are stronger, lighter, and give you way more benefits. they even offer hp that has been dyno measured due to less rotational mass= more power.
for $200 you can't find a cheaper way to get that kind of over all benefits.
I tun a build D with about 400 hp @20psi and mine runs awesome. so I'm speaking from expirnece not from hear say. Anytime I've worked with or on a project a alloy flywheel was always one of the things at the top of the lsit.

Have you Ever driven a car with a lightweight flywheel?
Because losing any driveability is complete bs ..

Thanks for the posts guys, I just ordered my ACT xtss with a prolight flywheel, Ive never driven a car with a lightened flywheel so I guess im just going to have to get used to it. Im only running 7psi on a stock gsr motor so im assuming it wont be a problem. I will let you all know how it feels after the install!

i have another question....when you say if you shift fast you wont have a problem. is that because the revs fall faster with a lighter flywheel?

i would say that dude has does not have light flywheel.
find someone that has one in the area and drive it. you will be perfectly fine.
platinum.

I think the stock b16/gsr flywheels are around 17-20lbs, and don't listen to that guy. Driving your boosted gsr with a lightened flywheel will be the same, the only difference might the pedal feel since the ACT clutches have faster engagement than stock. It will drive the same as it does now, nothing crazy, but you will notice an increased throttle response, which is the reason why you upgraded your flywheel.
10 lb fly on my SOHC not boosted (yet... I'm working on it
) but I LOVE it so far my favorite upgrade so far. the response is great!!! i have a CC pro street stage 2 clutch and well you get the point. DO IT!!!!!

It's a bitch to drop & put the tranny back on. Other than that it's easy.
I have a 7lbs Fidanza and I can't tell the difference between it and my stock Z6 flywheel.

I just put a 12lb one with the ACT HDSS in my Teg. It is NOT hard to drive at all. You have to be a little careful trying to takeoff, but it is nothing that you don't get used to in a few hundred miles.
I ran a 7lbs flywheel with my boosted civic and loved it, one of the most noticable upgrades for sure. And dont listen to the people who say its too light or you cant daily it because they have never driven on one, you get used to it really fast. Revs really nice and engine braking is superb as well.
