Default Will running 12.5:1 Pistons be Safe?

My LS/VTEC spun a rod bearing so I'm rebuilding her. Bottom end only because of $$.

Head:
Stock JDM b16
Slight P&P

Block:
Mahle 12.5:1 Pistons
Eagle Rods
Bored to 81.5mm
Polished crank
Calico Bearings.

Will be tuned with hondata.

Is this setup safe considering its running a stock head even after tuning?

For the pic ******:

I would consider a set of cams with more lift and duration to bleed off compression. Stock cams and high compression are usually an issue. What octane do you intend on tunning with?

I've never really seen a pic of a mahle pistons. It appears that the pistons has a lot of sharp edges. That's not good if you're trying to prevent detonation. I believe the consensus will be to use some big cams to bleed off compression and have a kick *** tuner set that baby up for you. Good Luck.

Don't forget to check your bearing clearance on the new build.

run 12:1 or lower on a street car. 12.5:1 is too high, period... counterproductive.

you won't be able to run full timing and your tuning window will be much smaller, PLUS too much dome = effects flame travel .

Nothing more than 12:1 should ever be run on the street..

but of course, on honda-tech a 13.5:1 motor can be driven daily on 91 octane -rolls eyes-.

Thanks for everyones advice. A reputable shop is building it and tuning it for me so all the clearences have been measured, etc. I help him build my motor so I can learn. 93 octane will be the minimum i use. Getting some 370cc injectors today too.
