Id be glad to help. The Knock Sensor code (code 23) is a direct problem with the knock sensor. It says it also can be part of the wiring. Usually its the Sensor though. Its located on the backside of the block above the oil filter. However, need to know some things. The knock sensor detects "pinging" in the engine or in other words the engine is running to lean. Have you done any mods to the car, or did it just come on? What kind of gas, etc etc all play into a "lean" condition. Lean means there is not enough fuel so it pre-ignites the mixture and causes detentanation(sp). If the car is running good, no other issues I would say its just the sensor going bad. I have yet to determine if Code 23 is just something is broke, or if it means its pinging. I had that code and replaced the sensor, I knew the car was fine, and all was well. When I took out the old one, it was shattered. Somehow a rock or something got up there and took it out. Im tired so I hope that makes sense, if you have other questions you can PM me but I wont be back till morning. Best of luck to ya!
turner7205 sounded pretty good with that explanation. Probably 9x out of ten, the sensor is just bad. I recently started throwing the same code. I replaced the sensor and it was fixed.

wow your explanation was perfect. thanks for all the info and help...i appreciate it and just for more info..i have b16a in an EG so yea..my friend says its most likely the knock sensor because thats pretty common. but i also got like a little over 200 mi. in my last tank. is that a factor in this case that shows that its running pretty lean? or...?? thanks.

The low gas mileage is DIRECTLY related to the CEL (check engine light) and Code 23. When the light comes on it goes into limp mode. Limp mode is basicly there to make sure your engine wont get fucked up. It throws more fuel, and air and messes with the computer so you can beat on it to save the engine. So when the computer throws more fuel your gonna get less gas mileage. My car felt like **** when it happened to me. Changed the sensor and bam all good to go. While you changing the sensor just to make sure your car is in good shape, check and change all of the maintenince items. Such as, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel and air filter, PCV valve, tire pressure, coolant. Your car will thank you, and you will love ur car once again. Hoped I have been of some help to ya, let me know if ya need anything else man.
