Default How do I get the quarter panel off a junkyard car?

Just curious as to how you guys would personally go about getting an entire quarter panel off a car in the junkyard?

I have a rotting crx and want to steal the quarter panels from a mint crx out at a local junkyard.

I was looking at it and realize that I have to drill out the spot welds and then make a cut by the door sill and another along the outer b-pillar.

But here is the part where I am stuck, what tools should I use since this is out in the middle of a field?

A battery drill would die way before I could get one off.

Any tools you recommend?

If it's a junkyard, ask them if they have any tools you can use. A lot of them have tools you can use such as cutting torches and other stuff.

If you could get your hands on a cordless sawzall, with a short blade..I think that'd be ideal.

generator and sawzall.... cut it through the trunk pan...most junkyards will cut it off for you....its actually a liability for them to let you do it...

Agreed on the liability part, the ones around here use a plasma cutter or an OxeyFuel torch

cut a general piece, not the actual panel, as then you have a panel that you can measure and drill out at home. So take the whole rear end quarter out...
..then again if it was me, I wouldnt get a rusty panel from a junkyard, I'd get a new one from honda.

for what I need from honda I'm looking at roughly $1200.

They don't sell the entire quarter panel anymore, just two seperate peices.

I know of two mint junkyard cars so I don't see any reason not to use those since they are much much cheaper

why not just get the whole car? or both of them? can't cost very much if they will be sold non-titleable

get it home where you can actually work on it

then, when you're done, call a free pickup service...ppl ALWAYS are willing to pick up a free junk car. I've literally had 6 towed off in the past 3 years, all for free

most of these places that have these cars, the cars have been titled COD, or Certificate of Destrestruction. I know local laws vary, but they may not be able to sell a car with a COD to just anyone, maybe someone with a dealer license perhaps. I do however agree, another CRX with less damagae and/or cancer would be the best bet.
