Default 205/55/16 (Stock) or get 205/50/16? Need opions/advice plz!

Hello all, the time will be coming soon that I will be needing new tires again. Not gonna get anything fancy because I commute 75 miles (total) each day. Currently still on the tires that came with my 2006 Civic EX (23,000, probably got another 8k miles left).

Stock OEM tires are 205/55/16. I've lowered my car on Tein s-techs (not dumped but rids of wheel gap - exact drop is suppose to be 1.4"F/1.3"R)

So i'm looking for experienced opions or advice

A - stick with 205/55/16
B - go with 205/50/16
C - if you recommend something different, throw it out there
.

So becuase I'm lowered, the tires look even bigger than before I lowered them, here is a few pics of before/afer

thanks guys!

i think you should go with the 205/50/16,cause the oem one doesnt give that much space

I don't feel to confident that 225 would fit properly on stock 16x6.5 rims... show me some pics of that if you really feel that is an apropriate size

Default The proper upgrade from 205/55/16 (Stock) is 225/50-16

SeanJohn1802: When changing tire width, even when keeping the same wheel size (as you are doing with your OEM 16 x 6.5), the goal is to properly maintain the overall diameter of the tire, thereby keeping the odometer and speedometer changes to a negligible margin, if any. By using a tire with a shorter sidewall, you gain quickness in steering response and better lateral stability, albeit with a more stiffer ride. The visual appeal is obvious as most wheels look better, so the more wheel and less sidewall there is, the better it looks. Having said that, to keep your speedometer and odometer accurate, your only other choice in 16" (as boostedlude97 has suggested) is 225/50-16. Your choices for 225/50-16 tires can be seen here.

Keep in mind that the choices in the 225/50-16 tire size are characterized as either Extreme Performance Summer or Max Performance Summer. Your OEM tire is characterized as either High Performance All-Season or Standard Touring All-Season. A couple of things to consider: Your current commute and will changing from and all-season to summer tire be a factor?

The 205/50 and 215/45 sizes can only be used if you go with a plus one concept, which in this case, you would use a 17" x 7" wheel and either 205/50-17 or 215/45-17 tire.

sennaperfected preatty much said it all. Couldn't have explained it better. But keep one last thing in mind which is also quite important, and that is the load index of the tire. Usually when you go lower aspect ratio without increasing the width, the load index drops, which makes the tire unsafe for vehicles of certain weight class. To put that in plain english, I once had a EG Hatch that I tried to put 195/45-15 tires on the rims which should've had 195/50-15s, tirerack called me back and said, unless I owned a Geo Metro, that aspect ratio is simply too low even for a light-weight like the Eg hatchback.
