Default D16Z6 Swap with tach reading wrong. No CEL and running well. ::confused::

I recently finished a D16Z6 swap on a friend's 91 CRX Si. With an O2 sensor replacement the engine is giving no codes, and seems to pull wonderfully. However, the tach (when at idle) now sits at 0 on the pin and as you accelerate it seems to be off as well.

What would cause the tach to read wrong without throwing a code, disabling vtec, or anything else? The tach was working fine with the D16A6 and it wasn't touched throughout the entire swap. Now, I have yet to test another cluster on it but only because I don't have one handy.

Anyone know what this could be? Is it most likely the cluster itself or is there something sensor/motor/ecu related?

Thanks.

Oh, and also I'm not 100% sure that vtec is engaging but I also can't read what RPMs I'm at... I pushed it up to 5k on the tach (my guess somewhere in the mid 6's for real) and I got no bogging or CEL although I couldn't detect an obvious change in power. It may be just working fine.

::confused:: Thanks again to any help.
