Default no primary 02?

Hey guys, Just turbod my b16, comp = p28 chipped w/ hondata s200. The guys who made my dpipe didnt transfer the o2 sensor . is it neccessary? Sometimes.. like 1 out of 5 drives the #1 code is thrown indicating theres a problem with the primary sensor.. well duh its not there.. but its only on sometimes? Also, I had the 2ndary (cat) sensor in but it was disconnected from the harness. But this wasnt throwing any codes either?
I plugged the 2nd one back in and car ran a little smoother. I am still untuned and am trying to get tuned but i know no one in their right mind would tune a car with cel's coming on sometimes..

if your running the open loop (which chances are, you are) then you don't need an o2 sensor, if your closed, then you do. But if you were closed your car wouldnt running like **** without an o2
