Default obd1&2 h22 oil pump compatibility

on honda automotive parts an oil pump assembly for a 92-95 h22 is ~$177 (p/n 109834), for a 96-97 h22 it is ~$166 (p/n 31472), and for a 98+ h22 it is ~$139 (p/n 31474).

I need an oil pump for a jdm h22a, if I can save a few bucks and get the newer model pump for less money I will. I've read the only difference is the obd2 pumps have mounting tabs for the crank angle sensor.

What's with the price difference from the 96-97 to 98+ pumps?

i have an OBDI oil pump at my parents house. It came off my jdm H, but i swapped to a OBDII pump to fix the CYP sensors and distributor issue.

If your interested, let me know.

They arent very compatbile unless you want to "rig" your crank angle sensors. If you have an OBDI pump, you need to run the OBDI dizzy. If you have an OBDII pump, you need to run the OBDII dizzy.

It's going in an obd1 car, so that isnt an issue. Im not using a crank angle sensor.

I would think they're the same with exception of the sensor. I was just wondering if the newer blocks with the 55mm mains would be different than the older blocks with the 50mm mains.......?

they are not the same, teh casting is differnt to clear the lower timing sprocket. On the obd2 pumps the timing sprocket has the ears on it for the pickups on the sensors, while the obd1 sprocket does not ahve those ears. an obd1 sprocket will fit on ANY h22/23 oil pump, but an obd2 lower sprocket ONLY fits the obd2 pumps.

So then if you have all obd1 stuff (oil pump gear and washers), then get an obd2 pump, you can put the obd2 pump on the obd1 motor and use the obd1 oil pump gear and washers?

yes only if the obd2 pump is 96-97, the difference is the 55mm mains

96-97 obd2 pump will work with an obd1 or obd2 gear. on an obd1 motor.

is the crank snout a larger diameter on the 98+'s? For instance, a crank pulley from a 98 will not fit a 97? Just curious.

my brother in law and i were both rebuilding engines at the same time, and his was an h22a4, not sure of the year since the prior owner had started with an S-Sped, broke the block and replaced iwth with an a4 block. We finished his sooner than mine and using his obd2 oil pump we put all my obd1 lower timing gear on it. I had to go back and take it back from him when i saw the only lower gear nad stuff left was stuff that didnt fit.

i am curious why the 55mm mains would make a diff? i know that 97 vs 98 they both use all teh same sprockets, same oil seals, and so on....
