Default Picking up an engine today, is this a good price.........

Going to look at a 01 SH engine (no tranny) today. THe engine has 55k miles and the guy over the phone told me he would sell it for $2500. This is at a popular huge junk yard. What do you guys think of that price? Also, anything in particular i shold look for when i go check the condition of it? Im gonna ask them if i can take the valve cover off so i can see if it was oiled properly. Im gonna make sure i have good compression and leakdown test on paper and a warranty. Anything else is should suggest or look at?

that seems steep to me. you should be able to find one with that low of miles for around $1200.

that is rediculos do not pay that much for an h22, unless you have an sh MAYBE. if you dont have an sh it wont work with out modifying the block the sh has its own thing going. i really hope you dont pay that much for an h22

Yeah way to much for a H22 w/ no tranny. Even if it is an SH. I am looking for a SH complete swap right now, w/ little luck so far..

Its an 01 SH going into a 98 SH. The only SH engines i were able to find around $1500 were from 97 or 98 SHs' with well over 100k miles. So you guys think $2500 for an 2001 SH engine with only 55k miles is too much?

way to much.

JDM swaps which are more desirable are in the 1200 range for the longblock.

I could see paying MAYBE 1700 bucks or even 2000 if this thing is in perfect shape with all service done, all new parts on it, with all the records to show who did the work etc... What exactly happened to your motor that cannot be fixed ?

If thats not the case, continue looking elsewhere.

This engine includes the complete intake manifold, distributor, alternator, powersteering pump. Basically everything except the tranny. I dont know if it includes the ATTS but i dont really need that anyways cause i can take the one off my current engine.

You could probably get a Type-s motor for less than that. Tell them where to stick it. Think about it you could probably sleeve your block for that much and get most of the parts you need for a rebuild.

For $2500 you can buy a complete JDM LSD front clip. Or for a little extra cash you could take it a step further and get a type S swap.

Could you let me know where you found the '97 and '98 SH engines w/ 100k+ miles? I would be okay with that.

How much damage is there to your hydrolocked engine?

Would it be a 97+ (or OBDII)? If so, where? I'm in the need big time!

No they would be ODB1 most likely, but you can always switch it using your current parts.

if its a real bad hydro id guess a hole in the block along with some shredded rods/pistons and vaporized bearings.

If its just bend rods and spun bearings,a little machine work... way cheaper to fix it.

Well F*ck that anyways cause i just got back and the ***** couldnt even find it, they think they sold it and no one updated the system.

I did not put a whole in the block and i dont think none of the rods are broken because all the cylinders move. I dont have the time to be with out a car for a long period of time, thats why i was looking to just buy an engine. But i guess now i have no choice but to see exactly how bad the engine is and rebuild.

I would rebuild with the type-s pistons would bump you up to 11-1 comp. and be alot cheaper than 2500. Just be sure to get a good bore/hone and get the OS pistons.. make sure they hone to honda spec or youll have trouble later.
