? on mounting a cheap ebay intake
a lot of people on here recommend buying a cheap intake pipe and then putting on a quality air filter, and thats what i plan on doing. but all i have ever owned is aem intakes, and i am looking on ebay at the cheap short ram intakes and i don't see a mounting bracket like i have on my previous aem. here is an example of what i am talking about:

as you can see in the pic there is no mounting bracket on the intake pipe, or rubber mount. so how are you guys mounting these ebay intakes? i looked through most of the "pics" thread, but didn't see a good pic of a ebay intake. i thought the rubber mount like on the aem intake was important to prevent it from wiggling loose. anyone have any pics of these intake mounted in your car? TIA

you can get a cheap ebay knockoff for cheap but that stuff conducts heat really well so you might want to paint it with high temperature paint or wrap it up with something so the engine bay doesnt heat up your pipe witch mean colder air into your manifold

not a bad idea if you're getting a fleabay CAI, but a short-ram is going to suck in so much hot air from the engine bay that wrapping the piping isn't going to do anything to help.

o it was for a SRI?? naw just get a CAI. if your getting it off of ebay it should only cost like $5 more for the CAI. and yea wrapping the pipe from a SRI will do nothing at all

i would get a CAI, but as i said before i am getting a new intake for the winter/rain, so i want something so i can rest assured when driving through the upcoming seattle rain. thanks though!
I have an ebay intake and have secured it. I used a big radiator hose clamp that goes around the intake and then made a little tab that gets bolted to the little module for the resonator butterfly...
The location I'm talking about can be seen here (I stole this pic from NTPOG intake write-up)
I mounted it to one of the bolts holding this fellow in place.

I still need to remove this guy at some point.
So, I wrap the hose clamp around the intake tube, and around the tab. Tighten it all down and there you go.
Before I did this my K&N would rub against the passenger inside fender and was starting to rub a hole in the filter. No problems since then.
