Default diy plastic weld help

does anyone have a diy or link to a diy on plastic/urethane welding? i need to fix a crack in my oem bumper and want to fix it the right way.

Take a soildering iron and get it nice and hot... push the plastic together and run it along the seam on the back side hold in place untill cool.

Then use light body filler and sand it smooth then paint it.

viola!

you could buy a plastic welder online. from like usplastics.com but its not needed what sleep posted will do.

better way is to get the HF plastic welder when its on sale for like 20$, then cut a small strip of the bumper that you dont see, and use that as a filler.

that works too ^ but really both work just as good as long as the material isn't distorted from the rip or somthing.

with the kind of work im doing to this bumper its gonna need a little bit of filler to make things flow easier..melting more urethane wouldnt be practical at this point

kitty hair? i dont think that would hold up well on a bumper.. we used to use this felxible two part stuff (forgot the brand) but i cant seem to find it anywhere anymore

i was hoping someone might know a similar alternative

its bondo brand filler with shreds of fiber in it. not plain mat.

yeah i know what your talking about its nicknamed kitty hair..works great for fiberglass but i can imagine in a bumper application..it will most likely crack because it doesnt flex with the bumper

i used a filler called evercoat.. it worked great for me when i fixed my SI lip and has been holding up great since (its been well over a year). it is not as stiff as bondo and will allow for some flexibility. dont forget to buy catalyst

i like to use Evercoat poly-flex on bumpers. works great for me.

lol, i did this once, used a butane powered pencil torch and s thin plastic strip and used it TIG welding style.... it worked, lol
