V-tec question
tryin to help out my homies girlfriend thats with a BASE rsx, for sum reasson her v-tec isnt kickin in, i checked oil level, coolent, but i dunt know what the problem is, her check engine light never turned on, the only mods she has done is 3" short ram intake, megan headers, and apexi N1 catback, and when we floor it i cant hear v-tec kick in at all ?? is it just me? or is it because it's an automatic base and the v-tec doesnt kickin as loud as us TYPE S's
Comes on earlier then a type S, there really isnt at switch point to speak of that you can actually hear. The car is working just fine. If you hear something then its not right.

actually, due to the fact that automatics just blow, you prolly wont hear much of anything and bolt ons to an auto don't do jack!
But to everyone, you do notice a different pitch with the so called "i-VTEC" crosses over. Nothing remotely close to the a2, z1 or z3 but its still noticeable. I normally hear mine in the 5,000rpm range on up till redline. Plus its stock and I do notice it. Or maybe I hear it all in my head and think my cars a race car for some reason
oh and BTW, Spell VTEC like that. Not V-TEC. Thanks, have a wonderful evening
and one more, you can always try this but pretend you're hitting vtec instead. http://videos.streetfire.net/v...0.htm Just a thought. Sorry to be a wise ***! Long day at college

Umm...my friend has an automatic and you can hear the VTEC kick in. It kicks in at about 5000 RPMs. She also has short ram intake and a catback exhaust. It doesn't scream at you like it does in the type-S, but you can still hear when it does. It is noticeable.

An automatic base RSX? I'm pretty sure that you're hearing the secondary air intake runners opening up to provide more air to the engine. The iVTEC kicks in at about 2200 RPM on the base model engine.

exactly. Much like the B18C1, our engines have secondary intake runners, more commonly known as "butterflies" which open up at a certain RPM... I can faintly hear mine (with the radio off) at around 5400 RPM..
