Default Where to refill oxygen/acetylene (sp?) tanks in MD

I'm picking up a used oxyacetylene welder tomorrow, and I'm wondering where I should go to get the tanks refilled when I need to, in Maryland. Focusing on the cheap here, since I'll be just practicing for a while to get a feel for it.

Thanks.

You will have to provide proof of ownership and/or get the tanks recertified depending on how old they are. Just look up "welding supply" in the phone book. You should have an Airgas around somewhere.

Proof of ownership? Of the tanks I'm guessing?

What would be an example of proof of ownership? I'm picking up the welder tomorrow, so I want to make sure I get everything I need.

How much would all of that cost?

I bought an oxy setup at a garage sale and I just had the guy write up a bill of sale. Most gas places will stamp their tanks(the ones they lease) and no other place can fill them so they just need to know that you own it and not some other gas place. On that note look for any gas company names stamped into the top of the tanks. Don't want to get stuck with something you can't fill I think I had to pay like $20 to have both my act and oxy tanks inspected marked with my name and then I was good to go.

i bought (not rented) an oxy and acetylene tanks a year ago from airgas in NOVA/alexandria. i'll have to get home and check receipts for costs.

www.tinmantech.com <- lotsa tips and materials here. i bought some SS flux and aluminum flux. My SS welds look good but alum sux @$$ at the moment.

www.weldingweb.com <- has some topics on gas welding

www.cut-like-plasma.com <- another site to visit

i think I4sillypwr is referring to tank certification. tanks have to be re-tested every few years.

if theyre the big ones, theyre leased and you cant get them refilled, so theyre as good as trash.

biggest size you can own is 80 ft^3

Here's what I paid for a filled set:

$140 for 75 Cu ft of ACETELYNE
$187 for 80 Cu ft of OXYGEN

did not know this.

that is only true since he is not the one that leased them though.

you can go lease them yorself for like 50$/year and get them refilled for like 30-40$ each as many times as you like though.

good luck.

They're tiny tiny little tanks. They look like they're 5 cubic feet at most

5 cuft would be like 6 inches tall and serve no purpose whatsoever.

the volume is when the gas is compressed.

80 cuft tanks arou about 8" diameter, and roughly 3ft tall.

if youve got something similar then you can get it refilled anywhere.

I thoght something was off. They're small tanks though. About 6" diameter, 1-1.5ft tall.

those are the 10/20 cu ft ones. green is O2, and normally its alittle bigger, it would be 20 in that case, red is aceto, and it should be 10. sometimes both are 10 though.
