Default Throttle Body... is bigger always better ?

On n/a apps.... ppl always upgrade to ITR units so they get the 60+ mm good stuff... but other manufacturers sell 65, 67, 68, 70... hell 72 mm units... understandably... the huge ****'s are for f/i cars... but does a bigger unit always work better on n/a apps ?

For instance... on a stock or light build... will throwing a 68mm on a matched intake manifold be overkill ? Or do you go just go with a stock R unit... or do you go ***** out with a 72mm monster (as big as u can afford) ?

I know that not every application is best for an engine... but how do you decide what t/b size you should shoot for ?

I tried wading thru the classifieds and f/s posts when I searched t/b's....

Ive always thought that throttle plate size and cam lift/duration are related. Could be just me.

Just installed a 68mm throttle plate size on a matched Aebs intake on my jdm B18cr spoon engine

Very impressive improvement of throttle response and gain everywere.

Obviously you have to upgrade your intake system ( Mugen airbox was my choice)

in boosted appiclations it would slow down the velosity or force of the air entering the manifold. in n/a i dont think it could hurt unless you dont port match

I would only use 68mm+ if you are using a larger motor, 2.0L or bigger. We've seen a loss of 6ft-lbs below 5k on a stock GSR by running a Spoon 70mm.

hmm that's strange, considering the spoon tb is only a 62mm that tapers up to a 70mm at the opening

just put my 68mm inner diameter on my port matched itr manifold with aem itr 3in cai and throttle response is amazing.. I came from a stock b16 throttle body before, this is on a i/h/e ITR motor..

what size would you guys recommend for a 81.5mm/ 11.8 comp/ Sk2 IM/ S2S2 cam'd b18c...right now its on a stock gsr tb with a 2.75" CAI, it pulls hard but feels like it gets choked up up top.

i think maxbore makes the itr to 70 opening to 65 plate

the power throttle body is 3" opening to 68mm plate

which one would be better on all motor 1.8?

on an n/a too big can hurt #'s as well as too small. it all depends on what the build is. what i would recommend though, if ur looking to buy a new tb and ur on a budget, contact tom at camp1320 and ask him about the power enterprise tb (i think this is what its called). its only like $160 brand new looks alot like oem btw.

I believe Spoon does make a 70mm t/b.

But on stock head (unported) and without upgraded cams... does it even make sense to go with a larger t/b ?

Everyone is saying throttle response... am I to assume low end is enhanced AS WELL as top end ?
