so i went to work.. new job in a so-so area.. its at a highschool and im right across the street from a city college literally.. which ive heard people getting their cars taken.. went to work at 7:45 and just happened to be a day I took off early.. 3 hours max.. at 7:45 its a real high traffic area, kids coming to school so I figure its pretty safe.. however, my silver civic actually stands out for once in the parking lot.. lots of vans, explorers, old corollas accords and civics... no beamers or evo...no one takes care of their paint...
neways got out and as soon as i reverse out of my space i notice this

it looks a lot worse then the picture and feels like crap

like an idiot I used my keyless entry and my alarm resets once the key is in the ignition, so that didnt tell me anything and my car has scratches around the window from a previous breakin...

the only i could have scratched it with is the club, but it doesn't seem natural for me to hit it on the side,..maybe if it was where teh air bag was

just seeing if im paranoid or if i need to add some kill switches

Smoked out... If it was a hacksaw mark it would be lower about 1/2 inch down. If you cut at that mark it wouldn't cut thru.

 

In the event that it was some kind of blade, why would he/she stop there? Illogical, but I guess a thief could be scared away by something. I wouldn't worry about it, you probably hit it with something. You said you have keyless entry, so test the alarm, and make sure it works, if somebody broke into your car (even if it was using a clothes hanger to pull the hood pop) your alarm wires would probably be cut, if there's nothing drastic like that or a hanging battery plug, then I wouldn't worry about it. Just test it to make sure it works (roll down the window, close the door, lock it, reach in the inside and open up the door to test).

I mean don't forget, they'd have to get in there first. Also might wanna use your key to turn the tumbler in teh door locks, see if it works in all of them, if somebody truely did break and somehow got around your alarm and broke the lock on the inside tumbler, your key won't work.

If that's all sound I'd say just keep the club up and hope for the best. Though I don't think it's anything significant. I mean what, they got around your keyless entry alarm w/o any signs of damage, got into your car, took what, half? a pull w/ a saw (not even a full one for a scratch that big), got scared off, then found a way to lock your car and put it back together so it was locked, then ARM the alarm before they got away?

I don't know, sounds a bit iffy to me.

Might wanna get a clutch lock though, I hear they're really good thief deturants.

They are pretty good, However...You don't need a clutch to shift. Hooray pop-starting.

@ O.P. - If they wanted the car, it'd probably be gone. You probably scratched it inadvertently sometime and just noticed it.

 

why not just install the kill switches anyway?

Maybe think about these as well:

-Removeable steering wheel.
-Alarm with backup battery/siren
-Mutliple kill switches
-Wheel boot

Probably some noob thieve didn't have the right tools to take your car, or something happened that scared them away.

 

Looks like a regular old abrasion to me.
1-A hacksaw blade has pretty jagged theeth that would really tear **** up.
2-As stated, the mark is about 1" too high.
3-No signs of forced entry.

If they're going to try and cut through the wheel, speed is of the essence. I doubt they're going to take the time to carefully gain access to the car (Unless it was a slim jim or jiggle key)


Edit: Judging from the depth, he didn't even get one good crack at is as it doesn't appear to be deep at all. Maybe you inadvertently did it with your key or something?

 

thanks you guys I really appreciate the self assurance... just a little paranod since Ive been broken into twice..
just was a little initial freak out thinking it was some noobs, every thought they have security in carts, i've been walking on and off campus for a week w/o being questioned.. im just in too much debt to get a new one even w/ the insurance
yea its kinda a weird mark, all my keys have smooth edges like the honda key... oh wells its not like i can quit work because of this

Sure, if a cop takes a second look they're toast, but meth/crackheads don't care.

Any single method can be easily defeated, you just should put enough obstacles in their path that they'll move on to an easier target. Though if they're professionals, and they really want your car, not even being locked up in your parents garage, with multiple anti-theft methods in place, is going to stand in their way.
