Default Are these bad synchro symptons or shift linkage issues?

Hey guys, on Labor Day I installed an SI transmission with some buddies of mine. Everything was golden until we got to the bitch pin; the furthest we could get it in was about 5mm sticking out. That's it. Anyway since we were on a time constraint we left it as is. No problems on the drive home or what not but I noticed when I go to downshift in this order, it grinds:

3rd gear --> put clutch in --> down to neutral, down to 2nd gear **crunch**

Mind you it only happens on a downshift and I press the clutch to go in. I usually rev match before I let the clutch off of the lower gear.

Fast forward to today, I install some shifter bushings and try to get the bitch pin in all the way. No go so since it was getting dark I railed a ******* 10mm in there on the other side incase that was causing a problem

Install everything and still I get the same ******* crunch. Drive it around and the same thing. However if I downshift in the above order below 10-15mph there's no grind. Also it doesn't grind when I shift from 1st --> 2nd. There is almost a soft clap sound in the shifter area. It's not grinding but it feels like it may be trying a bit harder. The other gears are all fine.

It **DOESN'T** grind when I go from 3rd --> neutral --> let off clutch --> rev match it -->press clutch --> 2nd gear. If anything I still get that muted clap sound.

Do you think this is an issue with the bitch pin, clutch cable, shifter assembly or am I just trying to convince myself that the tranny I bought (which I was told had 100% no grinds) isn't faulty. Thans HT

man o man

thats the thing i hate about transmissions
Unless you drive the car you purchasing it from you never know what the matter with it. And tranny don't have a tim elike like engines and go at any time

my advice spend the money to get the tranny rebuilt with everything so yo uknow for sure what yo u have.

sounds like a stretched/chewed up blocker ring. easiest way to fix it is to get a new synchro hub.
a worn fork can give you some issues similar to this. won't know til you open the case.

sucks.

You guys think this would have anything to do with the fact that I don't have a front transmission mount?

I always put Penzoil Synchromesh in my trannies. In all three that I've run, never had a grind. That's prolly just cause they were good trannies, but synchromesh keeps it that way.

Here: http://sms-products.com/TrannyKits.html

they are located right near me. Good peeps. E-mail them if u want one. They aren't usually in stock but they can have them in in a couple days.

Why down shift. ride in nutral till stop.

But for fixing it. please let me know. My 5th gear decided to go, and I don't know if it syncros or shift linkage but cant afford to eliminate one and have it be the other.

my Y1 tranny grinds into 5th after 3000 rpm but im guessing its the syncros....but then again the more I tighten my clutch the less it seems to get. so try adjusting your clutch.

Synchromesh will clear up SLIGHT grinds. If you're grinding hard chances are all it will do is mask it some, but you'll still feel it and hear it.

This is what I was thinking too. I'm sure the car wouldn't mind a new clutch cable after having the same one for 13X,XXX miles on it. And by tighten do you mean making the clutch pedal catch real low or real high since tightening the clutch pedal (righty tighty) makes it grab higher and vice versa.

Also would this be happening because my front transmission mount isn't on?
