What is the max HP you can build a D series to.
Can you make 350 WHP out of a Boosted D16Y8 if you use forged pistons and rods, ARP head bolts and Rod bolts, And a Strong head gasket? The reason I asked is because Im debating on Building the D series Or Building a JDM B16. Which One would be best for 350 WHP.
the b16 would be better only because with a turbo kit, its relatively easy to get 350whp than from a d16. you can make 350whp from a d16 sure, but i'd say go with the b16.
i heard of a guy making 400 whp with only aftermarket pistons on a D series engine. im not sure what kind of turbo set up he had.
but to answer your question i'd definitly go with the B series if you have the money to do so. they have more hp stock plus the DOHC is a lot nicer than a SOHC

do you have the b16? .. if not .. spend the money you would for a B16 and put it into the D16.. what do you have planned for the car?
usually the first thing to go is the rods. i think i remember seeing both 550hp and 28lbs of boost on SOHCs, but this is with full bottom end build; pistons, rods, and basically a fresh bottom end.
go to http://www.turbod16.com you will find out all you need to build your Y8 to handle 350hp.
Do you have the money to build "a" engine to 350HP ? Last season my son, rota92 and I had our D16Z6 at 260WHP at 12psi with a GT35R. The 92Si was a handful to drive. That was with a Quaife and Full Race Traction bar. It wasn't until we had Ed at Progress Suspension custom make a coil over set up for us. That and M&H slicks put the car into the high 11's with 3 sunk sleeves.
It's been a long time but we're looking for 600HP out of this current engine. A fresh block with the same Darton sleeves, Pauter rods and custom Wiseco's, Turbo Elements top mount and a GT3567R along with a 59500 cam to replace last years 59300.

No, I dont have the engine yet. Im saving the money to do either or. And im plan on spending about 5100 to build the engine. Recently ive been thinking it would be better to build a GSR B18C1 instead of the B16A2

Cheaper, more torque than most B series motors.

400whp is very easy on a D Series.
If you already have the motor, build it and add some boost.
424whp/365wtq here @27psi
platinum.

Wasent the pink full race car a d series???? The one that went of the T.V. show "pinks". I'm pretty sure they made some decent power out of that thing.
Ya i think it was and i laughed when i saw that it was a sohc.......... how did it do? Wernt they a bunch of pussies asking for half track?

Geoff just threw it together. It was more of a joke.
I have seen a b16 make 400whp on 19 psi. I dont know the specifics tho.

you can defintaly make 350 from the single cam but it would be easier to do it with a b16... a b16 with a bolt on turbo kit should get you to around 240-250 hp... take to a dyno and turn up the boost you can be at 300 easy... after that you better uprgade your suspesion and get some slicks like 1992si did or else all that power is useless and your left with a dyno queen...
that said... im currently working on a sohc-t project... ima leave the head alone and do pistons/rod/and a full rebuild (new gaskets/pumps/etc.) im gonna throw at least 15psi at it so ill let you know how it turns out

yeah that's what i would do.

one more thing to consider... i don't know about the b-series drive line but a d-series trans and axles isn't built to handle more than 250-ish hp. if you go with the D i would plan on upgrading the trans internals and axles. and, it's almost a given, but a nice strong race clutch/pressure plate would be needed in either set up.
those extras will get you right where it counts, in the wallet. can't wait to see the dyno run...
