95 Prelude VTEC engine swap
My 95 Prelude VTEC has 106,000 miles on it. I want to swap it with a 2.2L H22A Prelude TYPE-S at 220 ps. Think it can be done? How difficult do you think it will be to accomplish? Any opinions and advice?
It's not worth it at all. If u already have an H22A I would build that motor up!!! Type S prelude motors are too expensive (4K US?? that's insane!) for what you get.
But, what's the point in building up a motor that will eventually die...rather than puttin in a new Type-S motor with lower mileage and building that up to where it's faster than the H22A and has better mileage. IF I build up this engine it will still have 106,000 miles on it and keep rising.
Your stock motor'll be fine!! If u rebuild it properly you can consider it a 0 mile motor.
An H22A1 can be made to have just as much power as a type-s motor, and more! A type-S makes some of that extra 20 horse from it's bigger factory intake and exhaust, and what are the usual first mods that people do? - Intake and exhaust.

For the $4k+ that you'll end up spending on a type S motor, you could have a fully built NA engine. With some hi comp. pistons, resleeved block, forged rods, good cams, a head build, and some port & polish you'll be pushing much more than 220 hp.

all the components between the type S and regular H22 that are different will end up being replaced anyway if you want to make serious power
your motor only has 106k on it, why are you considering getting rid of hte motor already or rebuilding.
are you burning oil, have you done a compression test?

You should be able to bring an H22a up to TypeS power levels with bolt-ons rather easily...
The TypeS is rated at 220ps which = roughly 217hp. My prelude is rated at 200hp from the factory (at the flywheel).
I dynoed it at 162.8whp bone stock. With header and cat-back only, I dynoed at 173.8whp... From that we can calculate what my engine is theoretically putting out at the flywheel:
173.8/162.5 = x/200
x = 173.8(200)/162.5
x = 213.1hp at the flywheel with header and catback...
So I could argue that my car is putting out 213hp now with a header and cat-back. With an AEM CAI and a V-AFC, I should be well over the TypeS power output of 217hp... Without ever cracking the motor open.
