Default Power Gain From Flex-pipe removal?

Anyone have any info on this? I've heard that if you want to make an extra horse or two, replace your flexpipe with a straight one and get solid motor mounts/inserts to eliminate most of the need for a flexpipe. True or False?

You may gain 1hp, but you 'll loose a lot more when your exhaust manifold breaks of at the flanges.

lol yea man no flex is great, but your exhaust is gonna have to move some......

just get super stiff mounts and keep the flexpipe

Understandable but this is where (So I've been told) the solid motor mounts or mount inserts come in. They minimize or stop engine movement and reduce the stress put on the exhaust system and it's flanges and mounts. True or false?

Depends on the mounts. Something like Hasport or Innovative mounts that have super stiff bushings will still flex a little and would still need a flexpipe. I guess if you made 100% solid metal mounts with no bushings you could get away with no flex pipe....but who wants that?

Good thoughts. Thanx for the input.

i dont even have a flex pipe, I did the 2.5inch collector mod on my stock header and left the flex pipe out. I just want it to last an year, or atleast until i get my Vibrant header .

I don't think you would need solid metal mounts to not have a flexpipe.

If you think about it your entire exhaust is pretty much held up by rubber hangers. So it has a small amount it can move. I am not saying a Daily driver shouldn't have one, but it wouldn't have to have one either.

Personally, I will never eliminate mine. But to each his own.

It swings around a fair amount.

I had a custom exhaust fabbed up to mate with my header, and the exhaust shop of course overtightened the springs on the donut flange that Dave fabs into his headers. Which was fine, I loosened them up the next day so they could do their job. But once I did, the exhaust started to make this ugly scraping noise whenever I turned right. It banged a heatshield past the right rear wheel. Easy enough fix (just snipped the heatshield some more with some cutters), but I was suprised to see how much the exhaust wanted to move around while I was turning (like an inch or more laterally), and how much of that force my header was absorbing when the donut flange was effectively deactivated by coil-bound springs.

Flexpipes are a "good thing".
