2001 Prelude brake light stays on when cold?
Hey everyone, I've got a little question for someone out there who's possibly had the same problem... When my 2001 Prelude is cold, like when I start it in the mornings, the brake light stays on after I've released the ebrake for quite some time. It slowly starts to turn off as the car warms, but will still come on when I step on the brake. Any ideas as to what this may be? I've thought sensor, but it's only consistently when the car is cold... Thanks in advance!
I can't remember, but I think the brake light comes on when you are low on brake fluid. It might be just low enough to trip it, but once the engine heats up the reservoir, the thermal expansion of the fluid un-trips the sensor. Seems logical. Anyway, check your fluid level.
I have an '01 Prelude and it does the exact same thing. It only happens during the winter months. Its take like 15-20 mins of driving before it goes off. I have just learned to live with it. If there is a cheap fix I'd consider fixing the problem but my guess is a sensor problem when the car is cold.

happens to all 5th gens - nothing to worry about.
I filled my brake fluid reservoir to just a hair over the "full" line and haven't had the light come back on for a year now. The fluid level sensor is either too sensitive or not calibrated that well from the factory.

top off fluid like the others have said. also pull out the coin box in the center console and you will see the switch for the light. spray some white lithium grease on it, that worked for mine.
