i have a d16 y7 and my synchros are going out .Everytime i shift into 3rd gear it grinds. wondering what i need, is it hard to do, wat do i do to change it out?

I'd probably check the tranny fluid first. My old tranny grinded every time i shifted to third gear and i found out that i was just low on tranny fluid. However, if the problem persists, i'd recommend a tranny swap. Y7's are relatively cheap and easier to find. Its easier if you know someone who has experience to help u swap it out.

oh i forgot...replacing your synhros are probably going to be more difficult and expensive than swapping trannies

 

o k ya just picked up the car in cali and drove it back to oregon ill check the tranny fluid thats one of the things i need to do

 

Check your tranny fluid first and foremost. You could be low on mtf. I ran into this problem, and realized that I had a slight leak in my transfer case and only had about 1/2 a quart of fluid in it. It made my 3rd grind like a bad synchro and my 5th pop out of gear every once and a while. I drained what remained and put in 2.3 quarts of GM Synchromesh. Myself and a few of my friends have had fantastic results with it.
