Default New to Honda & need a opinion

First off, great site I'm glad I found it.
I need an opinion on my son's car motor swap out, there is lots of info from the guys on the street, but would like to get an idea from the experts.
He has a 90 Cicvi hatchback with a B-16A DOHC number 5002069
he wants to swap it with B-20B number 1049082 and use the heads from the
B-16A. Now either way we go the motors & heads are going to be rebuilt over the winter.
Also for some reason he wants to convert it to an automatic, is this possible? and if so what transmission would work with the B-16A or B20-B.
Thanks in advance for any guidance

Stef

KEEP THE MANUAL! I have an auto tranny in my car and I can't wait to get rid of it. I can never really drive in the power range that a honda is built for. So there is always the bog down at low RPMs and then you have to play catch up.

If he wants an automatic, save the money and put a single cam in it, waste of a CRVtec... If he really wants to do it though, they do make a JDM B16 Auto tranny. Hard to find but they are out there. Otherwise just use an LS auto tranny from 90-93 teg.

I'm guessing he doesnt know how to drive a stick... since your willing to rebuild and convert to auto, let him beat on that tranny and clutch and he will realise he wants the manuel instead.

auto in a honda is the worst thing they ever did. u will never see vtec if u do it will be just for a second. so therefore the b16 head is basically useless. but do whatever it is his car. my .02 cents

Thanks everone for your thoughts on the Auto
He needed to read experts thought on it, and yes he is just getting use to it, I took him out and showed him what can be done driving a stick.
now it's just weighing the 2 options of going
crvtec or lsvtec, we have the spare B20B already.
Also, I admin & Mod on a few sites, & it's great to get help & answers and not get flamed
thanks again, I have found a site that is great will be stopping in a lot more

Righteous! Good teaching the manual! Not hard to learn. I pretty much learned how to fully drive a manual in one day on my first day of work as a parts driver! Haha.

lol i learned to drive a stick in a day also. i had a 87 mitsu. starion turbo and my dad finally just threw me the keys and told me to have fun. i was 14 so i was terorizing the neiborhood. that was one of my favorite cars. other than my ef's.

but back on subject. in my opinion ls/vtec. because i dont care what anyone says the craze to go faster never ends. so eventually he will want boost. and i have heard bad storys about b20s and boost. i personally have never had a b20 so dont flame me for that. my .02 cents

if you already got the b20 go with the crvtec...its pretty much the same **** as the lsvtec just a bit more displacment..
you got your answers cuz your new and came about it the right way...its the know it alls that dont wanna hear what you gotta say that get flamed...all i can really say is that the search feature is going to be an invaluable tool in your build up...you will find that 90% of the info u need is in there...try to only make threads when it comes down to the nitty gritty details...but dont worry someone is bound to flame you in this thread...i can feel it
