do any of you other R owners hear almost slight ticking at low rpms in 1st and second gear especially.....my car idles at 800 RPMS so my valves arent bent.........could my valves be loose or is some ticking normal with type r's?

I've heard of the AEM making whistling noises at low RPMs, but never ticking...

 

maybe you should remove the aem and listen again if you're not sure..that way you can or cannot blame the intake

 

i'm not blaming the intake.........does anyone else notice a slight ticking noise?

No way that an intake would change that. It is your imagination.

or coincidence that it happened at the same time.

 

ITR's have noisy fuel injectors that make a slight ticking noise, especially when the weather is cold. some gsr's also do this. if its a louder ticking noise or a loud tapping noise, its most likely your valves need adjusting. who knows

 

ya its not very loud.......my idle is perfect and i can only hear it at 2000-3500 RPMs........just want to make sure its normal.........I have never drivin another type r so i have nothing to compare it to

 

It is possible that your car is in need of a valve adjustment...how many miles, and have you gotten the valves adjusted?

15,000 KM ......... but acura replaced 3 valves last november

 

Ouch...it is possible, but unprobable, that the valves are out of adjustment...also check your oil level, you could be low on oil.

thanks austin.........i just had an oil change two weeks ago........its been like this for as long as i can remember ........... i'm just paranoid............ everything is fine i just hear a lot of engine noises.........i just want someone to tell me its normal to hear certain engine noises in a R

 

I check my oil every time that I fill the car up with gas. The car sat for 3 days(longest that it's ever sat since I've owned the car) and then I drove 260 miles over the next 2 days, checked oil and I was ~1 quart low.

just checked the oil.........looks fine...........like i said the car runs great and feels very nice when i rev through the gears.........its just the engine noises when i'm driving really slow like 10km/h in first gear..........there is a lot of spinning and little tickets when i maintain say 2000 RPMS to get out of my complex

I get the same ticking noises at low rpm in 1st and 2nd gear.....my car runs fine...asked my friend (Honda master tech who pits for many R race teams) if it was normal and he said it is fine....our motors are just noisy. hope this helps.

sounds like you might need a valve alignment. if you are hearing ticking at idle, AFTER, the car warms up, you might want to get them aligned at acura. most people do this around 15,000 - 20,000 miles. i have the AEM and have never had any prob's with it............probably the valves

 

in addition, if you are running an aftermarket ECU, you might want to check the timing if you have it advanced.

 

zero ticking at idle...........the car runs great..........i just got paranoid about slight ticking that must be normal becuase its been there since day 1 and everything has been fine

 

yes i hear the exact same ticking noises and i hear it more when i just start the car and when the weather is cold
