You want about an inch of free play before the clutch pedal starts feeling resistance. That's what my gf's dad told me and he's been in the car game for a LONG time.

I think that if you tighten it too much the clutch is always getting worn on, so you want some free play. When I finished my tranny swap and took it out for a test drive, I had it too loose and I had to bury the clutch in the floor just to shift!

ok well i tightened it and it seems like the screw gets looser as i use the clutch more, as in I have about a inch and a half free play then a couple blocks later im slamming it to the floor to get it in gear, is this normal or am i just retarded?

Mine did that to a certain extent. It was because I had to pull the screw assembly out to tighten it properly, and when it re-seated itself it would be looser cause it was in the right spot. I just kept tightening it a lil bit evry time and it's fine now. but it's only plastic, so the threads may have stripped.
