Default '88 expansion valve for a/c

I have just finished replacing the compressor on my '88 wagovan and my dad thought it would be a good idea to change out the dryer and the expansion valve too. But I've got the dash half torn apart trying to get to the box, containing the expansion valve, open. I have already removed the clips that hold the box shut and the two mounting brackets on each side, but I cant get the box open fully open(it opens enough so I can see the expansion valve and the evaporator coil)so I can get to the expansion valve. Is there a trick to get it open or did I miss some other clips or something? If anyone has diagrams to go with answers that would help a lot! Thanx.

box must be REMOVED from car. Unhook the low/high side lines right before they go into the firewall. The box should fall right out as long as the holding straps and rest of the bolts are off.

There are 3 screws where the high/low lines go into the box and 3 more clips on the side of the box you can't get to with the box still in the car.

yep. Drier should be replaced but replacement of the expansion valve is a waste of time/money unless it's broken.
