Default Clutch Lock saves the Day!!!

I posted this thread in the 92-00civic forum but i thought it might be useful in here also.

I know you guys are tired of hearing about stupid thieves and cars getting stolen but I know how close our cars are to us. Anyhow, I never thought that my car would get broken into. Yesterday night, I left my car outside of my girlfriend's house to spend the night. When I awoke i was dismayed. Walking out to start the car, i saw that my rear trunk was open. The thought that someone had broken into my car wasn't even on my mind. I had thought i just forgot to close it. But then I suddenly remembered that i never opened my trunk the night before. Frightened, I went to look at the Driver seat. It was a nightmare come true, papers, screws, tools were over everywhere. I rushed in my car to check what had been tampered with. He had taken my Deck(I still have the face plate) and my army knife. My ignition cover had been torn apart, and signs of starting the car were apparent. The only thing that had been the difference between my car being there and the morning and at the junkyard was the autolock i bought a year ago. Dissapointingly, the expletive thieve broke it in half!!! Wat the hell...it wasn't sawed off...but literally broken in half. I thought these things were suppposed to be bulletbroof. I guess the lower half was the only bulletproof part . Fortunately, the designers had made it so tat even though the top piece was broken, the lock would still be engaged. Expletive thieves man...here are some pics of the damage

hahaha... stupid thieves! You got owned on honda-tech!

I hope the rest of your car can be put back together. i'd be weary of parking at your girlfriend's house though. Take caution as they might be back. If they were trying to start it and next time they break the autolock or whatever you use, will/do you have a "backup" system is what you'll have to ask yourself. Maybe you should send this information to the autolock company so it can be analyzed to see what they can do.
Truly sucks when we can't leave our rides out on the street and not get tampered with.

I don't care what anybody says autolock sucks azz. But can be used as a security layer to provide more time for the theif to be in the car-which thay hate. I took mine off at the fair with the tools provided with the spare tire kit. When I lost my keys. Don't park your car there because they are one step on you with your car security. Make your car more protection proof

th
That is quite true..i understand that if someone really wants your car...they would get it by whatever means. Autolock is just a added security device that will buy you more time. However, i also have read that modifying the autolock a tad bit will greater benefit its function.

Yea, thieves suck and should be castrated so they will never have children, but we all just have to deal with them. As for a backup security system..i don't know what else should i do ..i guess its back into the garage.

The thing is, they didn't cut it...it literally snapped off. I might just contact the company concerning this issue.

its a good product. The more layers of security the better. Look into gps tracking. Not the ideal of the cell phone being left in your car. That is for the birds and All the people that are really excited about this cheap little way out. You get what you pay for. Don't get up set when your car gets stolen and you just bought a used phone that wasn't even activated to try to track it later. Make sure you have a alarm thats properly installed. I sure not worried about my car. I'll just stock up on key cylinders.

I would love systems like lo-jock and what not. But the matter of the fact is, im just a poor college student who can't even afford full-coverage on his honda. Thank you for your input. Also, I am currently looking to upgrade my alarm system.

Ha, i would love to engage in a plan like that. However, like most of us, we just don't have the time to stay up late at night waiting. Its not the first time this crook has struck here...my girlfreind's car has been broken into twice also, but not consecutively...more like months apart...

Clubs and autolocks do provide you with some level of security but theres actually a product out there which is mainly marketed to tow companies and the like, its one product which can actually break the club and the autolock is half ( im sure someone on hondatech can find it ) theres actually a few things you can do fairly cheap to give you a little more security.

If you dont already have an alarm get one, look into back-up batteries, back-up sirens, see if they can hook it up to your horn, and check two way paging systems. Alot of people choose Dei ( python, viper, clifford the products from these three names are almost identical just marketed differently) and compustar i believe they are a bit more pricey have better range and features. Add on accesories are pretty universal.

If an alarm is a bit out of your price range, go to radio shack pick up a couple spdt bosch or potter & brumfield relays and wire up some kill switches.

If you have anymore questions feel free to ask, im just trying to contribute to the HT community as much as i can.

Thanks for your input...i had the itch to wire up a secondary alarm system with a backup battery but never got around to it and was never really worried because i never left it out of a garage. However im in college now and doubting the security officers..i'll definitely wire one up soon

I would love a removable steering wheel but I like the air bag on the steering wheel. Even if some people say the non SRS is better in an accident, i figure that bag should help. So many nice steering wheels.

The Autolock can be easily defeated with just your bare hands...

This article describes how this can be done...
http://www.epinions.com/content_3130368132

In light of this, the Autolock is even more vulnerable than a steering wheel lock, in which a saw is required to remove it.

Anyways, I'm glad you still have your car.

I think you need to have a license, business ID, or badge# to buy. I don't know how they verify that information though.

I still see it as a deterrent. The way I see it, I'd rather make it a challenge for them to take the vehicle away. If they succeed, fine. If they don't too bad If they buy/have that tool. fine, there are other layers they may have to deal with as well. If you don't have enough layers, you lose.

That thief was a total idiot if he couldn't get your car. I guess he really didn't want it.

Club like devices = useless except as a visual deterrent (Still pretty useless. I don't own any and I never recommend them to anybody.) Let's just say that I witnessed a toothless incoherent half naked man get arrested in front of my girlfriend's house and he was busted carrying something he uses to break the club and some kind of narcotics. Yeah I'm sure he used a badge or a license to get it. It's called some rope and a stick or it's called scissor jack.

Even with all the ******* security on my car, when I park in City Heights (my woman's house), I park my **** in her backyard behind a 6ft security fence. How you can get any sleep with nothing but that toothpick protecting your car in a known crime area is beyond me.

Removable steering wheel = useless except as a visual deterrent and even then it doesn't work so well.

Your a poor college student now but pretty soon you'l be a poor college student with no car. How much does a kill switch cost again? Hm, you don't got $100 for an alarm? Hope you got a skateboard.
