Default Name Brand CAI??

I am getting mixed opinions about buying name brand or generic CAI's. I used to own an RSX-S and on ClubRSX everything is about AEM or Injen CAI. Then I go on PreludePower.com and they say just get an Ebay intake pipe and buy a K&N filter which will total about $100. But would an Injen or AEM get me better gains in the top end instead of these generic pipes? I really need Honda-techs opinion on this one because I would think that Injen and AEM did the work and designed the Intake to create top gains compared to these generic types. So what do you guys think about this?

Wow, You might just want to search....

But since you dont want to or whatever this question will be answered again!

Buy a eBay CAI change the filter and you'll be fine.

Just GO generic.....I've been in the Import Car scene since 1997. And let me tell you name brand is just that...name brand. Nike vs. payless. name brand..The both get dirty and you Aint GOnna JUMP higher.

Intakes are made of aluminum. NO special 100million horsepower powder coated magic here. Only ECU's, e-management, Turbos..and those extremes are worth the money.

go to my thread, and see how I made my intake for $10-15 bucks! and it's nice.

I think the AEM is coated with some sort of heat deflecting material vs just an heat absorbing alimminum pipe. I can't confirm this though, and I got my intake with the car so I can't complain.

LOL pipe is pipe. get a cheap one EBAY FTW and get a good filter. and if you have issues concerning the idea of having regular non heat reflecting piping then simply heat wrap your cheap ebay one lol

I'm not arguing flow characterisitics. Wraping any intake with heat wrap is a good idea.

4th gen Pelude here and i was in your exact same spot.

I found a generic CAI on ebay that already CAME with a K&N plus it came with both spots to hook up the factory hoses, where as alot of them only have one and you gotta leave the other one floating around, so it was a win-win situation in my opinion..

Anyways, like others have said i pipe is pipe, try and find one that already comes with a quality "name brand" filter ... i got mines with the k&n for 80 shipped and i'm completely happy.

most Ebay intakes are clones or copys of big name companies like AEM. your just paying for the name/advertising and the sticker on the pipe. go with the Ebay one, and throw a AEM sticker on it [you cam probably find them on Ebay cheap as well.]

Holly **** this thread is over 3 years old.

I'm rocking a Bomz CAI(ebay) with a BPi stack and K&N. The only bad thing is the mount is crap. I'm going to try to make a CAI out of my old Injen SRI and an ebay SRI sence I know the Injen mount is perfect and I have them both laying around.

Try the ebay one, don't over pay, that applies to a lot of parts you might want in the future, just look really good at what you buy cuz ebay stuff isn't always good, but most is.

LMAO Do you have a CAI or a SRI? A CAI actually goes throw that hole and a SRI doesn't. Sence you're talking about blocking that hole I'm going to assume the later.

Now to answer your question. Why would you ever want to block that hole? Cold air is more dense and will make more power. I datalogged 20* cooler with my CAI, over my SRI.

I should datalog my IAT to see what it actually is right now. It's been getting to 8* out.

Just the quality of fitment and mounting. My ebay CAI almost hits my dizzy cap plus it does't mount worth ****.

... searching owns you - btw i'd be willing to say that around 90% of these guys are on pp.com so surprise dude we are gonna say the same thing - dyno proves it - in the end your only gaining 1 or 2 whp w/o a tune soo... you tell me ... what SEEMS to be the best choice here

it 20 degrees and sometimes less than that, dont you think its too cold for cai when its that cold outside?? In my search i read that 54 degrees is the best temp and that too cold of air can mess with cumbustion.

Were did you read this? I doubt it's right. The only possible down fall I can think of is that fuel doesn't atomize as well in colder air. This is why cold engines need so much fuel; to make sure their's enough for combustion, alot of it is just wasted. But in this senario, your computer should compensate for tempurture change(both A/F and timing).
