Default Someone Educate me... (Carbon Fiber)

I see hoods, trunks, and now a oem wing for our cars in carbon fiber... I don't really understand the purpose of carbon fiber besides that its slightly lighter than its metal alloy counterparts. I don't really like the wierd effect it has at different angles, maybe I am missing a point of it?

I know I haven't heard that story, and after reading the info from the link, I think I might buy the hood. lol

Not sure how it looks on the habi though.

I have a feeling that on the Habi and RR, it will look awesome. There's something about red cars with CF hoods that make me turn my head.

If you don't like the color on the CF, just go get it painted somewhere, to whatever color you want.

I'd also like to see the leather seats. A couple of dealers installed them and jacked with the prices of the car. Luckily I didn't spend $30k, and I hope they didn't get you for that either.

Damn Colo. stealerships.

Either way, nice to see a fellow CO FG driver

I can answer this, well first off, those videos that fiber images did are very very very decieving!!!! The hood flexes so if you ran over it with a fiberglass hood it would have did the same thing. The carbon fiber market is very bastardized. A real carbon hood should not weigh more then 5 or 6lbs. Not like all the cosmetic hoods that ARE MADE FOR LOOKS not strength. I am not knocking on ViS as a product just stating their manufacturing process. All they do is make a fiberglass hood then overlay that with 1 layer of carbon. They use polyester resins as well. This is to make the hoods cheap. A real carbon hood again is very very light and very strong! If manufactured right carbon fiber is 2 times stronger then steel by weight. But most of the carbon hoods on the market are made with low tech manufacturing that is why they are still heavy!

This is carbon made the right way!!

The average consumer does not want to pay $1500 for a race hood that weighs 5lbs because they are on street cars and most the time buying it because of the look not the function.

but you also have to take into consideration how small that hood is! Someone that has a seibon hood for this app civic should chime in with the weight of it. Seibon told one of my customers the mustang hood they carried weighted 10lbs but his he got in weighted 26lbs when the stock hood weights 24lbs

It is all in what you want. I would not buy a carbon hood that is 90% fiberglass and resin but that is all that is on the market

again I am not knocking seibona s a company but they make all their carbon stuff that way. They do it that way so they don't get that many air bubbles. about 99% of all carbon stuff in this market is manufactured this way. You also got to look at the price. My all carbon hoods are between $1200-$1500, but you are getting a tech manufactured hood with race materials with no glass nor poly resin and they are made using RTM process. the average person will not pay that for a hood because they don't need it THAT light for normal daily driving. Don't take this like I am just tring to push my product, I don't even make andything for the new civic

But in the world of composites, most chinese made carbon products are made for cosmetic use not for major reduction or strength. A carbon hood made by these companies are NOT ANY stronger then a fiberglass hood

well let us know when you do (also consider the trunk lid as well)

to me the whole point of CF is to save weight

i've considered it but again our stuff is not cheap and are geared towards racing. weight savings are not cheap lol. we have only a handful of street cars that run our hoods but TONS of race cars that have them

Here are a couple of our full race kevlar hoods
