opinions about ebay LSD
i searched and found some stuff but not my questions i'm about to ask, i'm going to buy obx lsd for my crx d15b turbo! i'm suffering a mega burn out problem that i cant launch it right, i heard that OBX lsd could have a problem when changing the axil, they say it get stuck in the LSD! i dont have much money to get a real deal LSD, so will the ebay lsd's work fine?!

OBX when they first came out with LSDs for Honda trannies, they did sometimes get stuck, but I THINK (key word) that was because of a dust shield problem. I think you had to remove the dust shield on your axels, or it WOULD get stuck. Apparently they came out with a sec. gen sorta, and fixed it though, because I havent heard of that lately.
I have seen a newer one installed into a civ. tranny, and the dust shield/rings were NOT removed, and it worked just fine.
So thats my two cents.
There were a few posts on H-T about it also I think. try search.
EDIT: Option one is crap IMO. Its like the Phantom "LSD" its not really an LSD, I cant remember how it works exactly, but its not true LSD. I think it just holds the axels together in the center hole, but the old phantoms broke alot (from what ive heard)
Option 2 would be my choice, there are a few LSDs, I think helical is where both axels turn all the time? And there is another one, the Open differential that only turns the other when cornering.
Or maybe they are switched around. Anyone else have input on the different kinds of diffs?

Search around in the rr/ax forums here and you'll see some archived threads that go for pages about the OBX units. By reading them you should be able to figure out what exactly to look for when inspecting your new one for potential problems.
I have a buddy who's been using one for quite a while on race-rubber with no problems yet.

i think the problem with the old ones is the groove where to locking rings on the axles sit so the axle cant pop out was not beveled so the clip would catch the edge and not allow the axle to come out. i think the new ones have a bevel on them now.
don't get an lsd off ebay. want other mods do u have to the suspension? strut bars, will help, traction bars, good tires, shocks, ect. lsd its all that great. sometimes once the tire brake its hard to get traction again. i have both a lsd and non lsd trannys for my b16 yes i like the lsd. but i can spin the tire all throught 2nd sometimes, and i'm feathering the gas the hole way. plus ebays cheap ****. unless u can find a name brand buy now thing.

option 1 is not a proper or even effective LSD. its a copy of the phantom grip, which itself is an INCOMPLETE copy of another design. i wont go into what its missing, just dont do it.
option 2 the OBX diff has quality issues. some ppl reported bad things, some ppl reported fine success. when i hear both sides, theres an obvious quality issue. as its been said, its a copy of the quaife design. quaife knows their stuff about making a quality part (even if they get some measurements goofed like bearing size and pinion depth on the steering racks). i dont trust chinese made stuff that are copies of an outward design and didnt go thru the proper engineering and material strength considerations.

this guy is partially right. here is the story. obx copied the quaife. the quiafe is a bad *** lsd. therefore the obx is just as bad ***. HOWEVER, the first obx lsds were not MACHINED on the splines. this means they grab the axles and they dont let them go. works great until you try to pull your axles. the issue has been resolved so, jsut loo kat it like gettign a quaife for half the price of a quiafe

quaifes are $900. LSD isnt going to eliminate your traction problems completely. any high horsepower FWD car with street tires is just going to spin. try some sticky tires like drag radials.
