help! car has very VERY high rev's when at idle!?
ok well long story short i did a tune up on my car yesterday...just the basic dizzy cap and rotor as well as change out the spark plugs. well i turned the car on and now at idle it is 2500-3000rpm!! when i put it in gear and start to drive its fine but say i slip it in neutral while driving it goes back up to 3k! i was getting a code 16 then i replaced the main relay and it went away but the idle is still crazy high. i will mention that while i was taking out the distributor rotor i had the key turned ON to the ignition ON and it shocked me because i guess i touched the battery with the tool i was using or something? well do you think that fried something in my dizzy? cause i have no clue what would make my idle so freaking high! btw...my car ran PERFECT before attemping to do this minor tune-up....what gives? THANKS!
if its a first gen. check the choke, on the left of the steering wheel
EDIT didnt notice you actually tuned it up and theres a story beihnd this, i thought, judging by the Display Pic (NOOB) that u just bought a crx blah blah

check for a vacuum hose that may have come off.
whenever you pull a vacuum hose off from anywhere it WILL make the idle go up to ridiculous levels.
Definitely a first place to start.
As for leaving the ignition on while replacing the cap and rotor. No biggie so long as you didn't actually short something and burn/melt anything. The shock you got was merely the voltage you received from the coil's charge.

sweet thanks for all the reply's! well i was about to try my friends spare std dizzy but i guess i don't need to. one thing to note...when i bought the car the guy said it was throwing a code for the TPS sensor so he took it to a shop and they said something was up with it and it seems the spliced into one of the wires coming out of the TPS sensor and grounded it-seem normal to do this? maybe i should go to the junk yard and get one and put it in? also...i checked for vaccum leaks and theres none to be found? hmm...
sorry this is for a 91 civic DX hatch...and don't pay attention to the "noob" thing i had to re-register on here because i forgot my password and log in name because its been years since i have been on here. ok thanks guys!

ok i think i might of found the problem...well i unplugged the TPS sensor and turned on the car...the check engine light came on of course but it isn't idling hella high like before...you guys think its the TPS sensor? i'm thinking it is because the guy had a problem with the TPS sensor before and the shop "fixed it" by grounding a wire off the TPS sensor...
i'm thinking this didn't really fix the problem...just made the check engine light come off and stop throwing the TPS sensor code?
