exhaust system problem
hi,
recently i found that my exhaust system has a few holes due to rust, car makes a very weird noise like something rattling and plus + now it sounds a lil diffrent, filling these wholes would i be able to use fiber glass and be sure the heat will not melt or anything ? or whats tehre for rust hole to be filled and no heat melting ?

just want something cheap and good, we'll i was hoping i could repair this on my self u dont think theres anything to clog the holes up, or is it even the holes causing this noise or is there another problem by any chance, such as the headers. Theres actually a piping right after the catilyc converter that gets a little bigger dont know what it is its all coming from there mainly btw its a 93 integra.
If your looking for a cheap, temporary fix you could always try some exhaust tape. It looks like alum. foil. I have no idea if it works but i always see it in autozone.

, weld they say the medal is too thin due to rust, i mainly here the thing after the catalyc convertor make noise there the cat then a lil piping and then the pipe gets a lil wider then back to regular piping whats that in between ? anyone know, ill c if i can get the pic

thats my best guess where the noise is comming from sounds like there a short and most of the air comes out of there and a very little about from the exhaust its self, what can be wrong ?

That's a resonator. It's like an inline muffler to quiet down the exhaust and help keep it from being buzzy sounding. I'm not sure how it is on the stock exhaust, but an aftermarket resonator is basically a pipe with a bunch of holes drilled in it, and surrounded by fiberglass, and then wrapped from the outside in another layer of metal to keep it all together. If your exhaust is completely rusted through like it sounds, and is all breaking apart and rattling, you should replace it, it's not even worth trying to fix and it'll probably just break again soon anyway. You can get a stock catback for really cheap, or buy a nicer aftermarket.
catalyc converter is fine im guessing its the resanator that makes this noise, i had dont a few test such as starting the car it sounds like the air leaks out when it goes there, idles real ruff, im guessing the resinator is the only problem, if so i would be real happy if i just change that then the whole exhaust system, how much is for a stock one real cheap and how much are test pipes ?
i got a new oem..it has a suprisingly deep tone to it that's not too loud..at least i can hear it from the drivers seat.
i got on it once and it did sound pretty good..I'd go with an RSR exmag if you want quiet and stock looking.

if you ahve the same problem as i...then its the heatshield on the cat thats making that rattling noise...fixed it with a clamp...the bottom heatshield just fell off and the top was held on by 1 bolt. also had the weld from behind the resonator and the pipe break loose. replaced with skunk2 catback :D

The cat is the one making back pressure and the resonator is straight-through, so you kinda got it backwards. The only purpose of removing the cat is to actually decrease backpressure, which is why people get straightpipes, so you basically got it backwards with everything.
It's also not a good idea to take the resonator out, at least on aftermarket louder exhaust, not sure about stock ones, because it'll sound buzzy and make that bumble bees in a can sound that sounds really ricey.

thanks alot guys, problem fixed. ended up being a hole under the headshield which i had to take apart the heat shield and use this special thing which is sorta like bondo but holds heat i put a ton of layers on top of this and car seems to be running perfect now. No rattling and no weird sounds.

yes, ideally you want low backpressure, but you also want a high velocity to help the exhaust escape. and when you have too low of backpressure you can end up losing velocity or flow. if you have a really huge exhaust for example, you will have like no backpressure but you will also have no flow.

Not trying to sound like a dick but you're not telling me anything new. I did not tell him to put a 3 inch exhaust on his stock engine or anything like that.
