Default 205/40/17 5th gen Lude

Looking at getting 7x17 42 offset with the fore mentioned tyre size for my 98 Pelude VTI 4ws. Any problems to mention with fitment with a 30mm drop?
thanks

i persoanlyl would recommend a bit more rubber, i would go 215/45/17 or at least 205/45/17, the 205/40 is to me just not enough rubber for a lude or accord.

whats the downside in your opinion? harsh ride and wheel hop? will the clearances be ok with this package?
Thanks

205/40 will work, but this will cause your wheels' overall diameter to shrink a little. this will result in smaller sidewalls (which is bad if the tire's don't have a stiff enough sidewall), your gear ratios will slightly change and your revs will be higher, your car will lower slightly, your tires will wear through faster, your speedometer will be off a little, etc...

but smaller tires will also improve acceleration, and like i said before your revs will be higher, and your revs will not drop as much between shifts.

i would still recommend the correct tire size though for a daily driver prelude. i use 215/40-17 on my 17" x 7" rims.

How will these tyre size effect the fitment? (7x17 42 offset) any issues with rubbing or arch clearance with a 30mm drop?
Thanks for the suggestions so far

I am dropped 2in on skunk2. with 205/40/17 with a 45+ offset and i dont rub at all. But yes your revs are higher and the speedo will be off as mentioned by BB6racer

i run 225/45/17's with no issues i would not run a 40 profile tire on a lude. espcially a 5th gen it will look horrible

205/40/17 is smaller than the stock wheel diameter. 205/45/17 or 215/40/17 are better. 215/40/17 is only slightly smaller than stock diameter and gives you a little more treadwidth.

check the load ratings on the 205/40/17s too - I bet that 99% of the tires out there in that size don't meet the factory load rating if you're going to stray more than a few percent from the factory size, you'd be safer to go bigger (215/45/17 for example).
