Default Timing

Just built my motor and the timing is off, making the check engine light come on. The codes are 1-4 misfire and random misfire. I took it to Acura and they told me that they need to pull the motor. Someone hook me up I going broke trying to get this car running. Is it possible to change the timing without pulling out the motor.

Pull the motor to do timing, that dealership is retarded or trying to rip you off. That would mean for a cam install they would need to pull the motor.

The question is how did you mess up timing to begin with? Did you follow the Helms? With the motor out its just a matter of setting the motor to TDC, aligning the marks on the timing chain, and installing the tensioner.

Its a little harder w/ the motor in the car, but first we need to figure out what you did wrong. Its a matter of having to remove the tensioner and re adjusting timing or pulling the whole cover off again. So what was the procedure that you used?

Could be the mechanical timing or a misinstalled cam gear or ECU or ignition. To me it sounds like the brains aren't right. Try starting in these places but you might have to pull the motor and go in-depth if is still isn't right.

Rmember, treat the disease, not the symptom, and DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME, don't gehto rig it or then you will be shelling out the big bucks.

Is it stock or after-market ECU? Is the whole motor stock or is it race-built?

the ECU is stock, the motor has bigger pistons and a higher compression that's it for internals, to find topdead center I followed the Acura manual for putting the motor together

If it is running higher compression you might need to get the ECU re-flashed or re-programed to account for it. Or just get a progamable ECU like a K-pro.
